In case you didn't notice, the new year of Valpo sports begins today!
The women's soccer team is playing an exhibition game at NIU this afternoon. Therefore, I thought I'd begin a thread for following posts about the new season of women's soccer.
Media Day: Valpo Women's Soccer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZZ6SBKImL4#)
Looks like we lost 4-3 to NIU, but hopefully will grow from it once the regular season starts!
Great start by the ladies to beat DePaul 1-0 in the first regular season game! The stats say that 326 fans showed up at home, which is pretty solid for women's soccer! Great job Valpo!
Valpo played very well against DePaul, and the crowd could be heard on the field. Here is a photograph of Rita reacting after scoring her winning goal. I have included 15 more photos for all to check out, including the actual moment of the ball entering the net, at Valpo Sports Photography: http://www.flickr.com/photos/96208998@N05/sets/72157635203072771/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/96208998@N05/sets/72157635203072771/)

Great shots Pal.
The women played very well again today against a highly regarded Miami (OH) team that has received votes in national polls. The game was scoreless until about four minutes left in the second half. Unfortunately, a penalty was called in front of the goal at that time and Kristen Manski had no chance to stop the point-blank penalty kick that was awarded, though she gave a great effort, as you can see in my photograph. Since they held their own with such a fine opponent, I hope the players are not dejected by the final score.
I have placed photos of the penalty and the penalty shot goal below. Also, I have posted about 16 pictures at Valpo Sports Photography for viewing: http://www.flickr.com/photos/96208998@N05/sets/72157635237147082/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/96208998@N05/sets/72157635237147082/)

You can't argue with the penalty call if that is what it looked like. Looks like a good effort by Manski. Good try ladies, and build on this game. The Horizon always goes through Milwaukee, so hopefully we can end their reign!
No question on the penalty from the photo. Great timing Pal! Other pics are well done too. Concur on the hope that this result is a springboard and not a chiller.
I love the "Valparaiso Crusader Soccer" Banner stretched across the entire back of the visiting stands. I hope they do the same for Football. Anything to make the place seem like a stadium.

Yes, the banner adds a nice touch, and it gives some character to the completely empty stands on that side of the field. The crowd was much smaller for this game compared to Friday night, and many were Miami fans, who sensibly sat in the home stands rather than facing into the sun. It was about 90 degrees with virtually no shade anywhere.
On the other hand, it was good to see a number of athletes from other sports, including almost all the new basketball players, attending to support the women's soccer team. Thanks for the compliments on the photos, as well.
That's pretty cool that the other teams showed up. It was always neat to see Moussa Mbaye and Oumar Sylla at basically every sporting event their FR year, and the teams appreciated seeing them.
We lose 1-0 in extra time against Kent State, following our OT win over Grand Canyon 1-0.
Manski wins HL POTW award from College Sports Madness:

Terrific win for the women over Northwestern this evening, 1-0. The team played very well again. Here are photos of the ball entering the goal and the celebration after the winning score.

Another win for the ladies at 1-0 over IPFW. Keep it up Valpo!
Congratulations to goalkeeper Kristen Manski, named Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week!

For anyone heading to the game at IUPUI, just a reminder that games are now on campus at Michael Carroll Stadium. Admission in free, but you'll need to pay to park. There is a parking garage just east of the stadium that will run you $4 or $5.
If you can't make the trip, live video is available through the IUPUI website for a fee of $4.95.

Haha ... understood. Assume no one other than parents would ante up, but thought I'd share the information. ;)

I've found that many times in the past few years when attending games at IUPUI that the garage shuts down at a certain time, the booth attendant leaves and anyone who is left gets to leave the garage for free. Although it's been a while since I've been to IUPUI for an event.
Do you really think they would charge parking fees for women's soccer, especially since NO ONE goes to those games, even if they are FREE to get in to?

Since IUPUI has no street parking and that is the only parking for visitors in the garage next to the Natatorium. Yes, they would. Remember IUPUI is in downtown Indy.
Today was Senior Day for the Women's Soccer team, and I took a set of photos at the ceremony, including the three below. Isn't that normally the last home game of the year?
If it inspired them to their 2-1 win, then, uh, I guess let's make every game senior day!
Curious, what's up with the player with no hair? a medical condition or choice?

Sarrah Ludwig has a rare medical condition. She is a terrific individual. See the following interesting and inspiring article about her: http://www.valpotorch.com/article_6a089aec-0f18-11e2-8a48-001a4bcf6878.html (http://www.valpotorch.com/article_6a089aec-0f18-11e2-8a48-001a4bcf6878.html)

welp, i thought i've finally become so reconciled to my own condition I don't even see it in others, when I saw the above quote.
was gratified to learn that I had not missed it, just missed the click-thru :/
Is it just a St. Baldrick's thing? Both soccer teams seem pretty into it, and Mark Heckler, etc.
