It appears the women's soccer team will be the first to play against the new Horizon League affiliate school, Belmont:

Kicking off the Valpo fall sports season today at Cincinnati

Valpo WSO fell to the Lady Bearcats 4-1. They played the match in three 30 minute periods. Kristen Warner had an unassisted goal in the 17th minute.
There are highlights and a write up at this website of UC Athletics.

The team looked good and won 3-0 today in an exhibition game during which they totally dominated play against St. Joseph's with a shots-on-goal advantage of 27-1. All three goals were headers, including the one by Robin Wenzel shown in my photo below.

I have posted a gallery of 20 game photos from the exhibition against St. Joseph's at the following link for everyone to see: https://www.flickr.com/photos/96208998@N05/sets/72157646589131762/ (https://www.flickr.com/photos/96208998@N05/sets/72157646589131762/)
Great shots as always. Keep 'em coming!
The East Gate grass game field looks like it's in great shape.
Wow, what a terrible way for our GK to start her Valpo career...nothing you can say but that this game is on her with a miscue like this!

The possible future addition of Belmont to the Horizon League, already an affiliate school in men's soccer, offered greater interest to Friday night's game. Throughout most of the game Valpo seemed to be more in control, taking nearly twice as many shots (17-9), some of them near misses. However, the first half ended scoreless and the second half remained knotted with less than three minutes left, giving the impression the conclusion would be a tie. Nevertheless, a defensive error allowed a Belmont player to go one-on-one against Valpo's goalkeeper, Galvez-Daley, leading to a fluke goal from 45 feet that trickled through her hands and rolled into the net. The game was enjoyable to watch, though the ending was disappointing. I include three of my photos: the starting line up in pregame, activity in front of the goal, and the Valpo scoring shot entering the net.

I hate to say it but this message board is great at making excuses. How about being more like setshot and just start expecting the teams to win.

Going into Eastern Illinois is our side under the radar and ready to break out?
OLDEST AXIOM: If they don't score, they can't beat you.
We beat Oakland 3-0 to start the conference season! How about the start of our Fall HL teams?? Volleyball is 13-1, Women's Soccer is 4-1-4 (1-0), and Men's Soccer is 4-1-2! It would be an awesome year if this keeps up in our HL sports, hopefully making us the dominant player we should be each year ;).
Add to that men's golf taking just the Chicago State Tourney and Men's tennis winning down at Perdue this weekend. Quite some autumn. Hopefully with the newly installed track our fortunes in T&F (and therefore CC) will be on the upswing as well.
At least our day ended on a good note, beating Cleveland State 1-0, in the first 5 minutes of OT! After almost getting a quality win in Milwaukee and then blowing it in Volleyball, then our Football team blowing what should have been a win with that 1-GL INT pass late in the 4th quarter, this calms me down a little bit :)
It is really nice to go to the HL website and see Valpo at the top of league standings in BOTH WSO as well as MSO. We should be giving our ladies more kudos. They are flying a bit under the radar even in our own Valpo world. And it looks like this squad is a blend of upper- and under-classmen (e.g., this week's HL DPOW is sophomore CB Shelby Oelschlager), which makes for a good future.
Another OT win, this time 1-0 over YSU! We are now 8-1-4 (4-0). We are having fun this Fall sports season!
Another day, another win for women's soccer - this time at Wright State, 2-1. Seven straight wins now!

If we take care of business in our next two games (tonight v Milwaukee and Saturday v Detroit) it looks like we will be hosting the HL Tourney at Brown Field. Lets hope these ladies keep finding ways to win
Another 1-0 win, for our first win EVER against Milwaukee! Milwaukee has dominated this conference over the last 10+ years pretty much. We are now 1-15 against them lol.
If we beat Detroit at home, we win conference outright and host the tournament. If we tie against Detroit, at a minimum, we share the regular season title with one game to go.
We beat Detroit 1-0 to secure the regular season championship and home field for the tourney!! Congrats ladies, now at 11-1-4 (7-0)! There wasn't any video, but the notes say that it was a flip throw into the box that was headed in by Ludwig, pretty cool.
[tweet]526118497995472896[/tweet]
First time since 1999 that Milwaukee hasn't at least shared the regular season title. Wow.

Let's get that NCAA bid!
Great job Thursday night by our women's soccer team. One step remains and it's against a team that played us even for most of the match here two weeks ago. Go get 'em!
Dispite our incredible record, we will need to win the title to get to the NCAAs. Our RPI was 108 before yesterday's win but, Green Bay's RPI was 225 and Detroit's is 257.
GOOOOOOAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We're dancing after the 1-0 victory over Detroit! Duck Fetroit :). Congrats ladies, well deserved.
Great Job Ladies :)

Nice to have WVUR crew on the microphone for the match on ESPN3...did a great job!
The exciting thing is that this squad is very young with only a few seniors. They could make a serious run toward a national title. Don't count them out!!
Apparently there were 1171 fans in attendance at the game. Sounds like an impressive crowd!

I would love to agree with you, but the difference between teams like UNC, ND, and others in women's soccer in the top 25, and mid-major programs like us, is pretty large. Even a very solid Milwaukee program has struggled against such teams in the last decade.

We're going to find out shortly as Valpo draws Notre Dame in the first round. Interestingly enough, our only common opponent was Oakland, who they beat 3-0 at Notre Dame and who we beat 3-0 at Valpo. GO LADY CRUSADERS!!!

At least we don't have far to travel. Anything can happen in the playoffs! Go Valpo!

Stay within 1 goal through 70 minutes and anything is possible. Our ladies can play defense. If they don't score they can't beat you.
We actually got a decent shot relative to seedings. ND is ranked 14th in the RPI which equates fairly closely to their 4 seed (top 16). We could have been fed to the lion via a matchup with a 1 or 2. FWIW, we finished the season ranked 86th in the RPI. Probably a record for rankings.
Let's go Valpo, shock the women's soccer world!
Regular scoring updates will be announced at the Basketball games in the ARC...
Forecast is for 25 degrees but no rain or snow Friday in South Bend.
Alumni Stadium, which seats 3,007, is on the northeastern edge of the huge parking lot for Notre Dame Stadium and the Joyce Center.

Well, seeing that our ladies play at a place that seats 5000, they certainly won't be intimidated!!

It cost $7.5 million and looks a "little bit" nicer.

Wow, 0-0 after 35 minutes so far
Tied at half. I won't discuss time of possession... :(
Still tied 0-0 at the half! I believe that we are playing for PKs, or minimal counterattacks, as it is 13 shots to 1 in favor of ND.
26 minutes to go, still 0-0. 18 degrees on the field with 6 inches on snow on the sidelines! Go Valpo!!
Oh, heartbreak! 89:10 and ND gets the (de facto) golden goal :(
What a season, ladies!
Great season, unfortunate loss on an accidental floater into the box. What a crock of crap way to lose, as she (ND player) had no idea where she was passing that, floating directly to a ND player for the finish. We should have lost with that 25 shots to 1 disadvantage, but not like that...
great job ladies!!! :)
May I know when would be the next big Women's soccer event?

No actual schedule of any events is set except for what the team has scheduled for their own members.
