Last night shows mostly predictable matchups. I was watching the First Four, which looked like routs, but then had major comebacks. Was a major comeback seen in any of these NIT games, or did they play to expectations in the seeding? Seton Hall did seem like the weakest of the 1 seeds, so only beating Stony Brook by 2 doesn't surprise me. Only one "upset", but that was the "home game" for Iowa that was technically a Dayton home game because of the First Four.
Tonight's games look to have some more upset potential, depending on how Drexel, Miami, and ORU come in to these games after the letdown of not getting at-large bids to the NCAA tourney. Valpo needs to come out shooting well, but I don't want to see them shooting so well that they score 55 in the first half, ala Iona, and then can't hit the broadside of the barn in the second half, and give up the lead. I do hope the flu symptoms are completely gone, and that Kevin's knee can hold up. If this were the CBI or CIT, I might have been ok with conceding the game altogether, or sitting Kevin, depending which team Valpo drew, but since we're in the NIT, I want a win, but want healthy bodies for this game too.
NIT scores from Wednesday 3/14/12:
Minnesota(6) 70, La Salle(3) 61
Drexel(3) 81, Central Florida(6) 56
Northern Iowa(7) 67, Saint Joseph's(2) 65
Miami(2) 66, Valparaiso(7) 50
Bucknell( 8 ) 65, Arizona(1) 54
Nevada(5) 68, Oral Roberts(4) 59
Illinois State(7) 96, Mississippi(2) 93 OT
Last night only 2 games were not upsets according to seeding, Drexel 3 seed and Miami 2 seed. I wonder how the NIT selection committee feels about their seeding.

Northwestern was fun to watch. I really liked that Crawford kid on their team he could score from anywhere on the court. I guess his dad is an NBA ref.
