Some kind of news is suppose to break soon about the UWM. May affect the Conference. Media knows about it but hasn't broke the news yet and is sitting on it.

The line "you're evil, lady" would suggest that the AD possibly has made some sort of decision that they aren't fans of.

Curious to see what. And what could come of whatever it is.

The Website Mid-Major Madness keeps teasing on twitter about some news for Oakland fans.

My guess is they are Picking Oakland to win the HL Tourney. I hope it's not something bigger like they're leaving the conference or something. I'd be pissed if they got an MVC invite over us or something. Doubt it is that but we shall see.

So does a win ensure a NIT bid?

No. Being the #1 seed in the conference tournament does.

If we were to split our games and Oakland wins out, they would be the #1 seed based on sweeping the season series.

Quote from: FWalum on February 20, 2017, 05:38:19 PMI don't think it is the norm for a school with a good academic reputation to state that a "cheating" student "continues to be a student in good standing" or that this "doesn't change Jubril's legacy as a champion Valparaiso University basketball player or student".

While I wholeheartedly agree that Valpo wouldn't do that if it were not true, it is well within the realm of possibilities that Jubril WAS in good academic standing and still had this situation occur.

All that I take "good academic standing" to mean is that he is on the proper track to graduate on time and has the GPA to do so. In this situation - WITH ZERO FACTS, AND I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH THAT THIS IS MERELY MY PERSONAL OPINION - the thought that comes to mind is that whatever happened caused Jubril to fail one or more classes, which caused him to fall below the threshold for full-time (even as a graduate student), which caused him to be ineligible. Despite that, he still had the total credits and GPA to be considered in good academic standing.

The fact that the University recommended a half-season suspension to the NCAA suggests to me that this wasn't simply an easy issue to dissect. Say what you want about the NCAA (and we all have plenty to say), VU offered 16ish games as a punishment in the hopes that Jubril could return to the court.

The NCAA isn't to blame here. They've got issues for sure, but there's really only one place to point the finger. Whatever happened - and all that came from it - started in one place.

That Micah Bradford shot at the end of the half was awesome! To bad that didn't count. Would be SportsCenter Top10

Shot is currently featured on espn.com front page...at least of the mobile site.

The baseline official who made the original call was Terry Wymer. We have had him many, many, many times over the past few years.

The fact that Tevonn didn't get free throws was a missed call, no doubt. But I still have no idea what Tevonn did to get thrown out.

I'm not that often a proponent of this sort of thing, but it's time for Matt to stand up for his players. If that means he gets an early shower too, so be it.

Here's another interesting question: What if this happened Saturday night?
He played Sunday.
Hmm.

It did. And he certainly did.

Matt Lottich and Luke Gore are at the Crown Point/Chesterton game tonight.

Also in attendance is Matt Painter.

Can Jubril take a redshirt year? Theoretically...

Unlikely. A true redshirt (aka, planned) means you can play in zero games. An injury redshirt is 30% of the games. This situation would likely fall under the former and he would not qualify.

(Side note: unless he was at a power 5 school. Then they'd give him this year back and two more for his troubles... /sarcasm)

Seems to me ESPN probably has bigger and better games to broadcast deeper into the conference schedules.  I don't agree with it, but when your fed the "TV scraps" you eat or

The league has the Friday night time slot every week. Not always on espn2, however.

But, this game could have been any week. The power leagues VERY rarely play on fridays.

Quote from: justducky on December 31, 2016, 11:16:51 PMWill this be the best crowd of the year?

Classes don't start until January 11, and the dorms are not open until Sunday.

Don't expect much from the students. There will be some...those who live close enough, off-campus or can find a place to crash, and who understand the magnitude of the game and want to get on TV. There will be many more who simply stay home and watch.

Wish we could go a year or two without playing a big home game on ESPN with the students gone. Seems to happen with our big games an awful lot...

Not sure why anyone is saying Alec didn't get fouled. He clearly was slapped on the right wrist/forearm during the shot. It doesn't matter if it was the first five seconds or the last, he got fouled.

Not the easiest to see, but you can definitely tell that his right hand is off the ball, which is a result of the contact.

Hmm.. I _thought_ the COMCAST Sports package that I added so easily and cheaply included SEC Network. Maybe not...

I always had it when I lived there. Channel 336 or 366 or something like that. I had the sports package as well.

Rhode Island beat Cincinnati.
From the RPI Tutorial I wrote up a while back:

OOWP = .250/27000 = .00000925 points per win.

The perfect RPI would be 1.000 ("one point), so that Cincinnati win on a November night to help Rhode Island doesn't really mean much.

Quote from: oklahomamick on November 24, 2016, 07:22:06 PMThe technical foul on byu should have been an ejection, correct?  Technical for the elbow above the head plus a technical for throwing the ball in Lexus face.  Shoulda hit foul have been gone

No. The elbow would be considered a flagrant foul, but was not deemed as such. And it didn't really seem like an elbow, so much as a push
with the forearm. They changed this a few years ago to give officials leeway to not just automatically have to call a flagrant any time there was contact.

The second instance is a dead ball contact technical. Basically, any contact that isn't just two guys bumping past each other can be deemed as such.

Even if both were called, there would not have been an ejection.

Sweet. Great video!! Looking forward to seeing it pregame many times.

I think the most sincerest expression on that video is the screaming after Broekhoff's shot against Green Bay by what I believe is former Valpo player, former Greg Oden & Mike Conley teammate at Lawrence North, Brandon McPherson--or was it another former player?

It's him. I was sitting next to him working for ESPN and I couldn't hear the production truck over him.

The only thing I can recall about SUU is that we had an eight-point possession against them one year at the ARC.

The college game is increasingly moving towards having a point, 2 wings, a stretch and a big (with sometimes a third wing replacing one of the big players, if the defensive end of the floor works out).

It remains to be seen what style and sister Matt will run. But many don't really require positions anymore, just five dudes who can play.

There will be plenty of room for guys if they earn it.
