I'm taking my dad to the game. I hope they play well since I've been talking this team up to him for about 2 weeks.

We are looking into a different facility that is not located in South Bend. We may have found a better deal.
Unless you're going into Michigan or Chicago you're only other reasonable option is St. Johns, which is better than South Bend due to there is no time change.

Don't look now but the golden Grizzlies are coming. They are nipping on our heels after a win against wsu making our return game that more important. The game will have even more weight, not because they beat us last time but because of standings.

This is a bit off topic but newcomer of the year award should go to EVN
I think they got rid of newcomer and now give it out to Freshman of the Year. And if anyone is going to win that it's Paris Bass. I'll give you a moment to look at what he's done this season while collecting 4 FotW awards.
Agreed, Bass has been very good this season. I can't remember, is there an All Freshmen team? Or All Newcomer team? Or none at all?
Quote from: agibson on January 28, 2015, 11:45:35 AMI was going to say he might retire, but he's only 63. I would have pegged him for high 60s-low 70s. He looks 100. Maybe Tressel wants to improve the money sports, I mean they did just get rid of the FB coach, but he was sub par for YSU standards in football (Imagine, a winning record is still sub par, how much would we kill for a winning record in FB?)
Slocum's impending departure has been mentioned a number of times (not sure by how many different people) this season.
Any reason to think they're eager to get rid of him?
YSU's only had like nine seasons, out of 34 now in D1, with winning conference records. Across the OVC, MidCon, and Horizon League.
Slocum's done better in the Horizon League than the last guy. Even taking YSU to the "postseason"... for the first time since their NAIA days in the 40's and 50's?
Slocum's won a zillion games in his career, and surely is on that graphic they always used to show for Homer, and even seem to show for Coach K, etc. Not sure why they calculate it this way, but they always seem to show "total career wins for active coaches currently coaching in D1, and we'll throw in any non-D1 wins they have too". And Slocum's top 10, like Homer used to be. And has passed Homer by now. What's he now, 8th on the list? Behind Rick Pitino, and maybe just got passed by Byrd at Belmont. More wins than Homer Drew, more wins than Gene Bartow. More wins than John Wooden! Sure, it's a longevity award in part. But, still.
I don't know the circumstances of the last YSU coach's, John Robic's, departure - but he seems to have landed more or less OK. Assistant at Memphis and now at Kentucky.
Any reason to think that YSU's eager to get rid of Slocum? That they're all of a sudden eager for a higher level of basketball achievement than they've managed... in the last 30 years?

Guys, my bad. It was 51 deg in Des Moines yesterday, I did not know that there was a snowstorm in Valpo yesterday.
Please accept my apologies.

When Oakland wins a road game against a team not named YSU or UIC we can acknowledge them.
What HL road game do we have that is impressive? We can't hang our hats on almost beating Green Bay at their place.
Quote from: oklahomamick on January 26, 2015, 09:50:07 PMCSU, Green Bay, us and Oakland. With 2 losses at CSU and at Detroit (who always gets up for that rivalry) and wins vs the top 3, Oakland might be legit.Quote from: FWalum on January 26, 2015, 09:33:19 PM
Really surprised at this one. Other than the top four teams the HL seems to have a bunch of weak sisters who lack energy and intensity for the game. After the first five minutes it seemed like Milwaukee just folded their tent and went home. Thought Jeter would get more out of his guys.
who are the top 4?

Quote from: historyman on January 26, 2015, 10:40:30 AMQuote from: classof2014 on January 26, 2015, 08:35:53 AMIt's very difficult to beat a team 3 times in a season.
You need to qualify this. Of the 9 teams in the HL there are only 3 to 4 that we wouldn't expect to beat 3 times in a season. In reality it isn't as hard to beat "a team" three times in a season.
During the last 4 seasons or so I would say we could beat 40% to 50% of the teams 3 times in a season and have many times.

Anybody else notice that we've already won as many games as we did all last year (final 18-16) !! Lots of work to do!!Quote from: LaPorteAveApostle on January 22, 2015, 09:07:42 PM
gosh, i hope we don't lose 13 in a row
If we do, we know where to start the blame chain...

Who was the wisconsin guy who would come on, and even was at the ARC a couple of times? Was that UWM guy?
The one who said UIC to the MVC was a "done deal" per sources?

He will get measured at the NBA pre draft camp. Would you like to make a wager. My meal to what you are willing to bet. Maybe giving me fishing lessons or a ride on your 4 wheeler.
Aren't you from Detroit?

They also weren't ready to represent the Horizon in the NIT 10 days later, where they lost to Belmont by 15. Were Sykes and Brown still hurt 10 days later?
Quote from: Smj on January 23, 2015, 08:04:47 AM
History tells me that this game will be decided by the refs... Sorry but that is how I feel about some of the Horizon League road games.
They will call everything for the home team until the end and then try to make the calls look less one sided after they have impacted the game enough that it won't matter.
Did I wake up on the wrong side of the bed or what. ......
Quote from: bbtds on January 22, 2015, 12:31:39 PMQuote from: valpopal on January 22, 2015, 12:06:27 PMThere were only 8 players dressed for the game last night. The subs were two freshmen, one coming back from surgery, and a hobbled Karungi.
I'm not going to question whether a player is hurt or not but it does seem that every time I read stories about this team there are far more injuries than on the opposition team. Valpo seems to always play short-handed. This goes back to when Keith Freeman was the head coach.
