Really enjoyed this article so I looked at it online.  Other than just doing just that, is there some place to indicate support?

I don't know how it works in the newspaper game, but at MMM we care about page views. Paul could probably come let us know if clicking on an ad adds to the value of the article or what not (sometimes that's the biggest concern of some sites)

Also my question was "Have you heard of the Blue Man Group". I answered no, because CHAOS! :)

Kyle, nice research.  Is that like ever, in the D1 era?

I would not think that him hitting that number is a good thing...asking for trouble/diminishing returns.

That's since 1997 since that's all BBState has. I wouldn't know previous to that but I have a hard time believing anyone prior to Bryce would pull down those kind of minutes.

We are "ETSU"

The ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics would like to ask both the print and broadcast media to honor our request to be called "ETSU" ... East Tennessee State University in first reference is acceptable, but subsequent references should be ETSU ... On TV graphics please use ETSU ... Our nickname is the Buccaneers, but Bucs is also acceptable.

Makes note to refer to them as just "East Tennessee" in any future recap I have to write.

A Peters                36.5

I saw this and went "Wow, Historyman is riding Peters hard. I wonder if Bryce ever went 36mpg for an entire season." The answer is he didn't, the most he went was 35.4 (close though and the 36 min guess would have gotten you 25 points). So I decided to look at BBState and see what the highest total we've seen.

Does anyone want to take a guess?

I'll spoiler the answer but if you click on the underline it will take you to the answer: link

Is this game going to be shown on the tv/internet?

SEC Network, it is on many cable/satelite/TV systems.

Yeah it's not going to be on my standard ESPNU is the highest level of ESPN I get but I get MLB, NFL, NHL and NBA Networks cable (Comcast).  I'm also going to be heavily invested in the Colts game and  Blackhawks game so I think I'm going to hit up my regular bar and get all 3 games at once.

I'm going to assume they play 33 games (31 reg season and 2 post season, that may be pessimistic for some, but I think it's a realistic expectation for them to get the 1st round bye, win the second round game and then lost the semifinal)

   Player      GP      MPG      Total Min
   V Fernandez      33      22.1      729.3
   J Adekoya      33      30.3      999.9
   A Peters      33      31.5      1039.5
   T Walker      33      21.5      709.5
   K Carter      33      33.3      1098.9

   D Walker      33      21.4      706.2
   D Skara      33      15.3      504.9
   EV Nickerson      30      11.3      339
   M Joseph      29      10.6      307.4
   D Chadwick      22      5.2      114.4
   N Davidson      15      3.4      51

My MPG adds up to 205.9 but my total minutes add up to 6600 exactly. I would recommend you figure how many games the Crusaders will play then figure how many games the players will play. Once you've done that just make sure your total minutes add up to your games played x 200.

You guys know what's up. I'm going to be covering the HL full time this year at MidMajorMadness.I know you all have already looked at this season's preview that won't be fraught with errors come this time next season.

Anyway I didn't come just to get page views, which really don't help me, but I'm sure my editors like them. Starting on the 26th I'm going to be doing a mailbag segment where I'll be looking for Horizon League fans to ask me questions and I'll answer them. Why? Because I'll be watching way too much basketball and if I can't share my insight with others my wife will bear the brunt of all my inane thoughts.

I'll also let you guys know when I'll have a Valpo recap up, but you already knew that.

So I hope you guys send in some questions for the mailbag.

I enjoy MidMajor madness and SBNation, but good lord that mid major madness twitter account is terrible. I don't care about Siena's new locker room. I don't care about Bill's new Pepperdine shirt. I dont care when any team is warming up. I want to get updates on top mid major schools, and their final results - not Binghamton vs UMBC after the first TV timeout, and absolutely no follow-up for the rest of the game.

But the previews are great!

How else are you going to know if Duke can sit on a lead or not? The Devils are in the de-tails!

Well unfortunately I don't run the twitter account. But I could pass along your info about it :)

Oh yes, someone who's twitter profile list Auto Racing first then "other sports" second. I'm trusting his judgement  :P

Because it is publicity for the way Valpo is perceived through out the rest of the state, it is worth taking a look see. If for no other reason than to see what is not getting written about VU.

I'm not knocking you. I'm just saying I'm going to take his word with a grain of salt. Saying that the loss of 4 seniors is a "big loss" is terrible reporting since 3 of those seniors weren't starters. Hell by the end of the season Coleman hardly played and with Nickerson coming in I think that's an upgrade. Losing Bobby and Moussa will hurt depth, but if Vashil and Jubril step up like we hope they do then the depth loss won't show as bad. Dority is the only one I'm really concerned about losing when you couple it with Lexus's injury. The way that's written makes is sound like we're in for a losing season. If we are under 20 wins this season it's a disappointment. If we're under .500 then it's pretty much a disaster of a season.

Hah, well I can tell you right now that if you ever see "Rachel from Valpo" sending in a question, then you'll know that my mailbag was really light, or there's something I really wanted to pontificate on that wasn't in the Weekly Recap.

I hate missing games, but if I'm going to miss one I'm glad it's a exhibition. Cheer them on good folks! I'll be at my mom's "Influencial Women" awards ceremony.

Congrats to your mom!

What is really amazing is that she won the award despite having a schlub for a son. His words, not mine.  ;)

Hah! Thanks guys. I expect a full report from here after the game.

I took 7-1. Mizzou is worse than Nebraska of 2 seasons ago and we shot like poo that game. No way we have an Evansville-esque game on this schedule in my mind.

Interesting little tidbit for the Valpo residents.

Now, to attract not just athletes but quality students to cheer on those athletes, just a few changes have occurred on campus since "The Shot"
1. 2004 $33,000,000 Christopher Center
2. 2005 Kalley-Christopher Center for Meteorology and Geography
3. 2009 $74,000,000 Harre Union
4. 2013 Fites Addition to Engineering
5. 2013 Solar Energy Research Facility
6. 2013 New Arts and Sciences Building
7. 2014 New Welcome Center
8. 2014 Beacon Hall
9. 2015 Completion of $15,000,000 addition to the Chapel
10. Significant addition to the University's Endowment

I know I've missed some things.  All this with a living alumni base of less than 50,000.  Has Loyola built as much in the same time frame?

The things I can think of is Kade-Duesenberg in 2000 and Uptown East Apartments even more recently for residential. But that's a pretty good extensive list of things.

In the "Doug-jump" is overall FG%. I realize McDermott was a lottery pick and comparing him to Alec is a stretch, but looking at their freshman numbers it's not completely unbelievable to think he could turn into a similar player. This isn't Michael Jordan we're coming him with.

I think you guys might be OVER rating Brown. I think Mays is a better all around player than Brown was and that with Brown gone it'll open up opportunities for Mays and Fouse.

Yes we shut them down on our court, and I think we beat them at home again this year, but I can't see Green Bay being worse than 13-3 this season in conference. Tell me who has the guards (besides us) to compete with Sykes for 35 minutes? Oakland (Felder) and Cleveland State (your pick, Lee or Lewis).  In my prediction I have GB being 13-3 with a sweep at home and losses to us, Cleveland St and Wright St (because no one plays particularly well there and their team D is enough to beat you). I don't think they win the tournament, but I do think they take the regular season title.

Rowdy was 40.9% - 48.8% - 49.1% - 44.8% and 36.4% - 44.8% - 39.1% - 41.7%

He was more of a long distance shooter as 56% of his shots over his career were threes. Alec last year was 47% threes. Alec took 165 shots from inside the arc while Rowdy never took more than 159. They don't play as similar a game.

Oppland seems like a reasonable comparison. 50.9% - 54.6% - 52.0% - 50.8% from the field. Now his 3P shooting didn't come into fruition until his junior year He took 78 and 99 his last 2 seasons and only 14 total in the previous seasons. He also didn't start until his Sophomore year.

I don't think we've seen a player like Peters at Valpo. McDermott seems to be the most apt comparison I've seen in a while. There is one player in history who hit a similar amount of threes his freshman year and shot 45.9% from behind the arc. But that guy came to campus 20 years ago and was only 6'2".

McBuckets through his college career: 52.5% - 60.1% - 54.8% - 52.6% and 40.5% - 48.6% - 49.0% - 44.9%
(remember his senior year was against a tougher brand of opponent)

If Alec improves ala Doug he'd shoot 66% from the inside the arc and 44% from outside. He shot 58% from inside the arc last year, 12 more made shots and he's at that 66%.

Dougie played 39 games his frosh year and 35 his soph year.  I took the per game stats for counting numbers and took the improvement and added it to Alec's stats.  For example I took DougieSoph's 307 FGM and divided by the 35 games he played, then I subtracted DougieFresh's 220 FGM by his 39 games. It led to an improvement of 106.4 so I added that to Alec's 154 frosh FGM and got 260 FGM for Alec.

If we're looking at a Dougie McBuckets-esque player I really hope he takes the Frosh to Soph jump Doug did.

If Alec makes the jump here's what we're in store for. I think you'll like what I've found.

32.5 MPG
20.7 PPG
58.5% FG%
82.1% FT%
44.0% 3P%
2.0 3PM/G, 3.3 FTM/G
5.9 RPG
1.3 ORPG
1.3 APG
1.9 Fouls/G
4 Blocks (not per game total)
26 Steals
