Hey, Carlos Anderson will be in Valpo on Homecoming. I almost forgot about that.  ;)

As well as the weekend of Beerfest. Wait we're not an SEC football school.

Wasn't it GB who had a bunch of players flat out say their coach is a heartless drill sergeant who doesn't care about the players on the team... And didn't they have like 5 guys opt to transfer out of the program as well, and don't they have one of the most overrated players in the HL??? I don't understand why people think they have a legitimate shot at winning the HL, last season they were supposed to be really good and well... they almost got lucky at the end but didn't they finish about .500.

I think we all know it'll probably be between Valpo and Wright State for the HL championship again. I could see Oakland or possibly CSU making a run at it but saying GB is one of the top two teams in the HL completely discredits whomever wrote that article.

I think Wright State is the class of the league this year.  They have the entire team returning from last year and if they stay healthy Arceneaux and Darling should be All-Conference players.  After that it's Oakland, Valpo and Green Bay.  I see why people are picking UWGB, Sykes is outstanding, and could be the PotY (or at least challenge Perry for it).  Fouse is one of the most athletic players in the league.  While I believe Brown is overrated, he's still a really good player.  As a basketball fan, I wish he would gain a little muscle, stay down low and actually rebound, but as a Valpo fan I want him to stay a stringbean. Green Bay also plays amazingly better at home.  I could see them being undefeated at home this season. I really want to catch a game up there just to see what is up with their crazy home court advantage.

Valpo is inexperienced.
Oakland is untested in the HL.
Detroit is rebuilding.
YSU has one good player, and he's not Lebron.
CSU has a good sophomore, and not much else.
UIC is... Well Hayden Humes is the best player on their team.
Milwaukee still has Jordan Aaron shooting 25%

Here's a link to an ICS file for the schedule.  This will work for Google Calendars, iCal for Apple devices, and Microsoft Outlook calendars.  If it doesn't work let me know, but I've tested it on Google and Microsoft.

The Horizon League season television schedule has been released. Valpo has six broadcast games, five at the ARC:

http://www.horizonleague.org/blog/horizon-league-espn-announce-2013-14-mens-basketball-tv-schedule.html

It's starting to get embarrassing that we've been able to put together at least 30 games for Valpo, there's a listing of what games will be on TV, and they haven't officially announced their schedule...

So just looking over these posts, the only possible BCS team is Illinois? I hope I missed something and there's more than 1.

We only had one scheduled last year, and really I think as long as we get some of the top teams from mid-major conferences our schedule will be tough enough.

Sounds like Coaching, but did the US get to play together for a few games like OZ did when they went 6-0 in an earlier tournament?

Loyola's looking like a real good add for the MVC now.

I'll echo the hockey sentiment.  My high school alma mater (Lake Central) has had pretty good teams since adding it as a sport so you have a nice little feeder school right in your backyard.  The closest rink is the one in St. John, and I don't think getting ice time would be too expensive since they have open skate times every day of the week.  I feel like there would be a fairly rabid following to start with and if you can get good early in the programs history, you'll have a fan base forever.

That said I don't see it being added anytime soon.

I only know the 2 local guys so I can comment on them.

King would be awesome. I think he's the goods.
As an LC grad I would love to see Tye Wilburn come to Valpo.

Quote from: DMvalpo18 on March 21, 2013, 03:50:03 PMSo is it going to be a while before we get back to the tourney? It seems like our time in it has come and gone pretty fast. And it will be strange indeed to not see Ryan in a Valpo uniform anymore.

We definitely have a chance if Junior leaves for the NBA next season. If he leaves, I'm going say we're the 3rd best team in the league which gives us a good shot at making the tournament with a conference tourney run.

This was enjoyable to read LPAA thanks for keeping it up all season.  Unfortunately I feel the only thing that could be in trouble is a top 10 FG% for Bobby next season.  Maybe LaVonte could put together a top 10 FT% next year too? This is wishful thinking.

Here's my recap of the game

I'll put together a postmortem for the season once the entire HL is done.

Quote from: agibson on March 19, 2013, 04:53:22 PMAh, right, thanks!  It's the auto-bid!  I'd forgotten all about it. That tournament was 2 of their 7 D1 wins! So, lucky UIC drew Chicago State, the auto-bid.  Does this somehow mean that UIC's the top overall seed? ;) (I can well guess geography mattered here.)

Geography only matters in the CIT.  The first 2 "rounds" you play the team geographically closest to you. Then they move it to an actual bracket

I knew it was a shop, but I still don't want it. Someone from the Athletic Department is going to see that and say "YES, we have our alternate uniform now!"

My initial reaction to that uniform:

So why did we get the (harder) Auburn Hills 14 seed and not the Dayton 14 seed?

The way the bracket stands the Dayton games are 7-10 and 2-15.

The 14's are in Auburn Hills, Austin, Lexington, and Salt Lake City.  At least according to wikipedia.

Or am I misunderstanding your question?

Yep my question was wrong.  The other 3-14 I was referring to was Marquette-Davidson in Lexington.

Quote from: a3uge on March 19, 2013, 11:53:59 AMThis is why we were given a 14, and Montana a 13: Nothing to do with bad losses. Nothing to do with Sagarin. Nothing to do with RPI. Nothing to do with any rating system. Nothing to with how ugly the championship game looked. Nothing to do with recent tournament appearances (Davidson would not be a 14). Nothing to do with Bryce Drew flopping on the floor. Valpo was the closest 13-14 seed to Detroit. Montana was closer to San Jose. They flipped the teams. That's it.

So why did we get the (harder) Auburn Hills 14 seed and not the Dayton 14 seed?
#799
If they want to have the 68 team field make sense I propose this (see the abbr's for round names):

You win your conference tournament (or if you're the Ivy League), you're automatically in the Field of 64.
If you are one of the top 29 at large bids you are seeded somewhere between 1 and 11 and are also in the Field of 64.
If you are one of the last 8 teams in the tournament, you have to travel to Dayton for what is currently the First Round and the teams will be listed as seeds 61 thru 68 for that game.  The winner of those games will move on to play the 5 seeds and will be seeded 12.

I'm apparently cool now and got to do a preview for the Valpo-MSU game.  I'm pissed about their seed. I'm pissed about the team they got, but damn it if I'm asked to do a respectable journalism piece I'll do my damnedest to make it sound like I'm not that pissed.

In my opinion we didn't get shafted on seed as badly as we got shafted on the team we're playing.  We're easily the best of the 14 seeds.  MSU or New Mexico are the best 3 seeds.  I don't get why the top 3 and 14 seeds would face each other.  We should be in Lexington against Marquette, which sets up a potential second round match up against BUTLER! Damn it bracketmakers, you should have listened to Tom Thibodeau: DO. YOUR. JOB.
