Can anyone here confirm whether or not Coach Prevost will return as OL coach in 2024? He no longer appears on the official staff page, but he also has not announced that on social media that he is coaching elsewhere. Wondering of Jarnigan will get his own room as OL coach...

Yes. Has been on staff at NMSU as a GA. This is a GREAT hire and he's connected to the university community in number of ways. Should bring som stability.

Is this still an issue now that Lottich is on the Mizzou MBB staff?

RB Coach has seen the most turnover of any position coach over the last decade. My son was in the RB room for 5 years and worked with 3 different coaches in that span. Has been spelled out on this board over and over, but if you can't pay them, coaches will move on to a program who will.

I didn't see this posted on this board anywhere, although, I may have missed it. Looks like Coach Smith is leaving or being assigned a different position. This may provided some context for the number of WR headed to the portal.

12/13/22 FootballScoop Post...

"Valparaiso (FCS - IN): Valparaiso is currently hiring a wide receivers coach. This position coach would work closely with the offensive coordinator and staff, with primary responsibilities being on-field coaching, development and national recruitment of academically qualified student athletes. As a full time, benefits-eligible role, the successful candidate will have demonstrated success as a coach, recruiter, and strong interpersonal skills. Please send resume, cover letter, and references to landon.fox@valpo.edu."

A "bubble"-style indoor facility would be GREAT addition to VU athletics.  The comparison to UIndy is spot on in terms of scope. Would be used by multiple sports, esp if a track surface was included. Granted, I have no idea what that would cost, but it would sure check a lot of boxes.

Noticed that with the firing of Miran, the only assistant still with Cecchini who was also with him at Valpo is Giacalone (OL). Very hard to be successful if you can't keep a core of coaches with you. Miran likely offered up as a sacrificial lamb as Cecchini tries to keep his job. May still not be enough.

Max James has left the Valpo staff for Eastern Michigan, according to his Twitter account. His departure means that the entire offensive staff from 2021 is no longer with the program.

I think every one is aware of the long odds of making an NFL roster, but if you can't get a foot in the door, the odds are even worse. I hope he makes the most of the opportunity regardless of the outcome.

Disappointing that VU refusing to keep up with rest of conference in terms of number of funded coaching positions. Truly a significant disadvantage.

S & C position is of particular concern. Spring Ball will end soon and summer program will need to put together, both for those who stay in Valpo and those that head home.

Any idea how staff is handling things now? Position coaches in the weight room?

Thanks for the update! Loss of coaches is a bit concerning at this stage of the game, tho...

  • New WR coach (Gladney's replacement) has left the program
  • Land moved from the defensive side to the TEs and has now left the staff.
  • Smart, the S & C guy, has left the program
Any news on filling those spots?

Interesting that there is still no offensive staff movement, no internal shuffling, etc. Have to assume there was SOME applicants for the OC job, right?

Valpo Football / Re: Nimz enters xfer portal

OL improvement looms even larger, IMHO. Having the best overall athlete in the conference in the Valpo backfield masked a number of issues with the OL. In 2022, this group will no longer be young and inexperienced. Having to keep both TEs in and/or both backs in during pass pro had a significant impact and the kinds of pass concepts that could included in the offensive game plan week to week. We were RARELY able to get in a "Heavy" set and convert on short yardage.  A more balanced attack will actually create better run opportunities, even if the back is a slight step down in talent from Washington.

Have to also wonder about state of offensive staff. If Limbach/James are staying, Nimz may not feel he's a fit for the offense. May be fishing for that more than scholarship $$.

In addition, I'm not very impressed with QB DEVELOPMENT over past 3 seasons. QBs haven't gotten much better than when they arrive. Nimz may be seeking a change that way as well.

Not sure what the point of this post is.

Seems like the coach is just notifying parents of a campus-wide policy that is in place for all students except, I would assume, in-season athletes who have competitive events over Thanksgiving Break. As 11/20 will be the final game of the football season, there are no football players actively participating in practice or games over Thanksgiving Break.  I would guess that this policy has been in place long time.

And, of course, Valpo football has been non-scholarship for a very long time, at least since '91 when the PFL was started. It's old news that football players pay their own way.

Quote from: David81 on September 06, 2021, 11:24:22 AMWondering out loud if Div. 1 non-scholarship football schools could form a formal alliance with its own mini-playoff structure. I don't know how many schools fall into this category, but you had 35-40 schools that agreed to be in such an alliance, at least they would share an identity and championship structure.
Right now only the PFL and the Ivy League are FCS non-scholarship conferences.

I will never understand the Div 1 non scholarship status.
NCAA rules since the early 90s mandate that all sports (hockey is only exception) play at the same Div. level. So, if university-wide athletic program wants to stay D1, only choices are dropping football or moving to non-scholarship. One can argue the merits of either choice, but that's the deal.
