Until he shows something on the court with a Valpo uniform on, he is just another "project" taking up a roster spot.  A more athletic version of Vucic is still just as useless.  Hopefully I am wrong.

Try to follow the original intent of the post.  It is about Bobby Capobianco with a brief, seemingly ill advised reference to Vashil.  So, do you think Capo will be a project taking up a roster spot?

With his experience and high school record, I would hope he would be a big contributor.....but we shall see.....I'm betting on him

So my post was primarily about Bobby but you seem to want to lecture about a small comment concerning Fernandez.  What perhaps I should have said was:  Add Bobby to the mix of Kevin, Richie, Rowdy, Vucic and, if he can walk and chew gum with his 7' wing span and jumping ability--Fernandez, even though he hasn't played a single game of basketball at the college level, and we have a powerful front court who can bang with anybody.  Better?  Jeez.

Never meant to "lecture" you, and my comments were not meant just for you.  I just think we should wait before we put him so high on the list.  Hopefully he'll be as good as we all want, but to annoint him now seems premature.   I'm sorry if I offended you.  I didn't mean too

Some of you seem to be putting a lot of pressure and hopes on a guy who hasn't played a minute of college basketball, and very little basketball of any type.  I hope Fernandez is all that too, but let's be realistic is our expectations

A couple questions about the HLN broadcast. Did the audio get better early in the first half? Or was there an echo the entire broadcast? If so, I have no idea what caused that. The audio that's fed back to me is the radio broadcast. Thus if there's anything wrong with the HLN broadcast, I would likely not be aware of that, and in most cases would not have any control over that issue. One factor last night was the regular HLN director at the arc had the night off. He usually will let me know if there's an audio issue on my end. Thanks to all for the kind comments last week.

The echo stopped early in the first half on my end.  No problem after....I'm glad to know the regular director wasn't there, because the person directing the pictures sucked with his cutaways, missing free throws and drives to the basket on several occassions.

I haven't been able to find the football newsletter that ranked non-scholarship teams, as well as other divisions.  I suspect it is no longer in existence.  That's probably why it isn't officially acknowledged, because it was a newsletter that was published, not anything official.  I do remember during the old voy.com message board days, of which I was the moderator, we made a very big deal about it.  Maybe Chef can remember who it was that had those rankings, I've gotten too old, but it did happen.

I can only find the Dopke College Sports Report and Don Hansen's (those were used to rank D1-AA non-scholarship) final rankings for 2003, where Duquense is #1 and Valpo is #2/3. 

I believe it might have been the Don Hansen report and we were ranked number one early in the season as I remember, 2 or 3 at the end.

Are you guys on drugs?  First in football?  Maybe in 1923 or so but we are talking about being ranked Number One in the nation--any division.  Surely we were number one in the Pioneer League but we sure weren't number one in the non-bcs level D1, let alone being ranked a head of say, Ohio State.  The Bowling Team is the first to be ranked as THE TOP TEAM in the nation, not some sub-division.

Sorry, but we were ranked number 1 in Non=scholarship football.  I'll look it up when I have time, but I promise you it is true....for at least 2 or 3 weeks

Maybe we could honor the women's bowling team for being the first #1 ranked Valpo team by temporarily placing their picture at the Victory Bell (below) in the forum banner?

While I congratulate the women too, remember they are not the first number #1 ranked team we've had.....believe it or not the football team was ranked number one back in the early 2000's.  Not sure what year, I'd have to look it up, but they were there, so they probably were actually the first.

rlh, was it during the 2003 season, when we played for the PFL title with David Macchi and Rob Giancola leading the offense?

That sounds right....surprised the Athletic Department didn't acknowledge it, but then it might be because it's a subdivision...not sure....It takes nothing away from the Bowling team either way.

This will be a tougher game then many of you suspect.....we better come out ready to battle....I was at that game over there two years ago, and they physically pounded us from the get go....expect it to be physical as hell.....

This was a huge win...eventhough they aren't what they have been, they are still Butler and we beat them at Hinkle.....I love the agressiveness of this team, even when down they took it to them

Isn't it time for this thread to end.....most of us wish Brandon all the best, but lets concentrate on what we do have, not what we don't.....

Long story short, I have a feeling "Lady 'Saders" will catch on and I'll be the one cashing in on all the gear!!!

I don't believe I ever said I don't care who wins or loses.....I just think it should be kept in perspective.  Being embarassed by a teams play just doesn't fit with me....sorry.....I want Valpo to win as much, and probably more than most, but I try to remember it's not the be all and end all.  In my case, I'm fighting cancer right now, and it certainly puts some things in perspective as to what's really important and what's not.  Doesn't mean I don't root just as hard for the Crusaders, Boilermakers and Bears.....

I'm sorry I don't drink the same kool-aid everyone else does. I'd rather be a harsh critic of all of the sports and coaches at Valpo, than to butt-kiss and enjoy the rose-colored sunshine so many of you wish I was a part of regularly. From this point on, I'll post if I choose, but I'm very close to being done with this forum for good.

demoralized after the embarassing display in columbus, and to support my statement in the thread about december results, butler wins in a defensive showcase 58-57.

I'm always amazed when one of our "fans" is embarrassed by how the team played.  Guys it's still just college basketball....I will never be embarrassed by how my teams play, whether it be the Crusaders, Boilermakers or Bears....Get some perspective.....

All Vucic needs to give us at this point is minutes....he takes up space and plays a little defense.  As long as Kevin is healthy that's all we need from him.  I get tired of people talking about what he isn't....he is what he is and at the moment he's the only choice we have.....

The answer is to stop playing the young men who are fumbling the ball, throwing interceptions and missing tackles. 19, 23, 44 .....the list goes on and on.  I know this is painful for the coach but maybe it is time to give some of your upperclassmen who have pretty much been mothballed....a chance.  Some have never gotten it with the coaching changes at Valpo.

Your senior qb has given the team four years of his life.........you can't give him 5 minutes on the field?  Really?  What about the junior?  How many more mistakes can they make that those that have already been made? 

What do you have to lose?  You will likely be pleasantly surprised.  Look at the kids high school stats......they are NOT an empty cupboard as you have said time and time again,  Quit writing about character when you are doing nothing but destroying these upperclassmen with your careless and crazy comments.  Watch the replays...see who is doing a good job.....take off the blinders....before it is too late. 

I'm guessing your son is one of those upperclassman....who when they had their chanced didn't do any better.  I'm sorry, I'd feel the same way if it were my son not playing and they were losing, but it is what it is at this point and denegrating the coaching staff won't solve the problem

You're expecting an awful lot from a guy who hasn't played much basketball in his life and is very very raw.  As far as Vucic, he did alright the other night against Augustana, nothing outstanding, but he held his own.  That's all he needs to do....it's obvious that Edwards is a face the basket player, not a 5.  Vucic will have to play and at least keep the status quo.....I thought he did pretty well for not having played in almost 3 years.....

Mallory Ladd seems unbelievable. Hope someone in the know can give some information why Betsy Adams, Ashley Timmerman, Charae Richardson and Ieva Jansone haven't played yet. I know about S. Lang being injured but what are the issues with the other players.

Timmerman and Adams are hurt, Richardson has to set out a year and Jansone has to set out a semester, or vice versa.....

I am told that Voiles was just under 6' coming out of high school....kind of like David Robinson if you remember that story.  Some kids just mature nad grow later....by the way, we were sitting with a Bulls scout last night.....he was there to see Voiles

I would hope that the GSU coach won't be abl;e to make the same claims next Friday. Four of us VU grads(one of whom played for Bartow) are considering going to Statesville for the game. About a two hour drive for us. If we go, I hope to get coach Nepo's autograph and rlh's too (if he is there). We expect a Valpo win by 10+ pts., but after a 15 pt. or more loss at Az. we might be worn down. Go Valpo!

As much as I'd enjoy meeting you after all the years of banter back and forth, I no longer travel with the team....so I guess it's have to wait until you can come here sometime.
