Yeah I think we are in a pretty good place if with as young a team we are we go toe to toe with someone at the top of the standings with the preseason player of the year living up to that billing and the difference between a win and a loss is one big old guy who has to be gone next year. Brodie is a beast but apart from him we did not look to be out skilled last night.

Valpo Basketball / Re: MVC All Freshman Team and FOY

The freshmen on other teams are also not as high on the scouting report. Valpo being a worse team means Cooper is guarded by tougher players, yet he's still producing

I agree- the pace we were playing was very fast. A really entertaining game to watch though. I think we need to give a lot of credit to these underclassmen- they held their own against a veteran bulky, tall missouri state team. Great effort.

well according to both college's websites, their stats from the prep year are:
Carson: 12.3 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 2.3 apg
Cooper: 11.2 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 3.3 apg

Yeah was just about to say why are we not driving to the hoop every possession with all the fouls uic have picked up
#6
And Stafford continues to yo-yo

great game by Cooper and looking at the stat line Darius had 8 assists and 0 turnovers to go along with his 9 points. If he keeps playing like this he's got to end up on the most improved team

makes me nervous that we're running so much time down on the shot clock and still 8 mins to go

We have no offense tonight

To be fair we don't have a deep bench and while others were not playing great Sciarroni was on the court excited to play and was pretty active on defense; that's better for me than a player who is just going through the motions and looking a bit flat/lost

She has unfortunately struggled with service returns all season; something to work on in the offseason

They did not have a fall season in 2020 so I think she still would have broken the record. But I agree, it's more like half a season was missed replaced by a full season.

For what it's worth I have it on good authority that there are people on the board strongly opposed to the art sale. But Padilla is pretty set on it and it will be hard to get him to listen and change his mind.

Yes!! And we didn't win because we shot lights out from 3 - 34 points in the paint and FT% much better than the other day. Also we won the rebounding battle by 5?! Against a team that came in this season on average +12 on their opponents?!?!?!!

11-22 from the free throw line in a game lost by 1 at UIC. Big opportunity missed to snap the losing streak

We just don't have the players. Dunson is having a difficult season in every stat department but is one of our most physical players so is getting a fair number of minutes. Our 2 transfers Sims and Tecca contribute very little. Both Pitts and Saunders (who I think will be a star player if she stays) have stepped up but have some turnover tendencies. Earnest and Brown are solid but not stars who can carry the team to a respectable Valley finish on their own.  The various players that have redshirted and are having roles this year are also just that- role players.

The charter will cost lots more than $20k; I would guess trip will cost more like $200k- still an unexpected almost quarter of a million dollars towards valpo athletics though!

On the women's side I'm surprised Drake got a WNIT bid; they have been very hot and cold this season. BUT it does show the importance of playing well in the nonconference... we shot ourselves in the foot

we are taking some good shots they're just not falling at all and Mosley is so good

Did we not practise our inbounds the last couple of days?!

That women's game showed that we've adapted. 40 points in the paint, players driving instead of always looking for the 3. Mary Evans has helped them to adjust the offense, we shouldn't be doubting her coaching ability. However, this does mean some of the players look a bit lost in the new offense as dribble drives are not their forte. When Weinman gets healthy I doubt VanKempen will be starting or getting many minutes. I also couldn't help but notice it looked like we only had 8 active players in the stadium which I guess has to be covid related. Hopefully everyone stays healthy and we can play all games when scheduled.

Did anyone else watch the women's game and notice that when they panned to the group of 3 players (who admittedly had lots of space around them) and when lottich was in the background surrounded by others, none of them were wearing their masks?

I really hope we don't have an outbreak
