On a semi-similar note: anybody know exactly how many people are enrolled this academic year vs. last year? I noticed the page where I get it from (http://www.valpo.edu/registrar/statistics.php) STILL hasn't been updated (it was updated in December 2011 with the 2011-2012 numbers). Anybody know what's up with that?

Valpo Basketball / Re: 2/16/13 Valpo home to UDM

I thought it was embarrassing when we were outscored by Detroit by 20+ pts in the second half of the Horizon League final. Then they went and got outscored by 25 points in the last 9.5 minutes of the game today and lost a 15-point lead in a little more than five minutes. Nothing short of atrocious. Seemed like we were really hurt when Buggs got into foul trouble.

On another note, despite the fact that Valpo was ahead for the entire game before Detroit's run, Bryce Drew managed to use all of Valpo's timeouts with four minutes left in the game. How does that happen? On multiple instances, Bryce called a timeout right before a media timeout. I hope he realizes how poorly he managed his timeouts.

As happy as I am that Valpo won, keep in mind that we beat them twice in the regular season last year, and it didn't help us in March. Great comeback though.

Valpo Football / Random Shout-Out From Deadspin

It's a story that has nothing to do with Valpo football, but I found it amusing that the writer referenced our football coach (it's toward the beginning of the story). Thought it was worth a share.

I agree with what you are saying and to a degree with WH.  His point (a faceless character) underscores the issue that without a face it's hard to convey the hilarious things you mention, valposter.  I don't get to any games in the ARC and only have been to two football games since the new mascot came on board, so I can't judge how involved and how well trained it is (I say "it" because who knows what gender the person inside the costume is?).

From my experience on campus (just graduated Spring 2012), the Crusader was almost always male (which I find a bit ironic since it's supposed to be gender-neutral).

To be fair, the story was a features story, not a sports story, so odds are they didn't know about Butler leaving. That also means the person editing it isn't a sports guy, and unlike the past couple of years, neither of the top editors are big sports guys.

And about the whole plagiarism thing, I think the most disappointing thing is that the guy wasn't caught sooner.

As disappointed as I am in the lack of class shown by Detroit, I still have to say that I'm more disappointed in Valpo's performance than everything:

- Outscored by 27 points in the final 21 minutes
- 2-for-18 from beyond the arc (started mindlessly jacking up 3's way too early)
- Gave up 11 offensive rebounds for 11 second-chance points
- Outside of Broekhoff and Van Wijk, the team went 7-for-29 from the field, including 2-for-14 in the second half (two non-100% players clearly can't carry a team to victory)
- 18 turnovers, gave up 20 points off turnovers (whereas we only scored two off turnovers)
- Valpo fouled Detroit four times in the first two minutes of the half
- Valpo had one timeout left with 10 minutes to go

Detroit definitely stepped up their defense in the second half, but I felt like Valpo helped them out too. Perhaps Detroit finally showed that they are the better team, but they are definitely not 20 points better than Valpo. Bryce himself admitted that it was one of their most sub-par performances this season.

Anybody have any clue what NIT seed Valpo could be getting?

Valpo Basketball / Re: Article about Coach Powell

It's interesting that someone mentioned Bryce and Powell heading to Illinois, because I actually heard something about Scott going to Illinois, though I have no idea if there's any truth to that.

General VU Discussion / Re: 2011-12 enrollment numbers
December 08, 2011, 02:52:21 AM
It's official: enrollment decreased from last year to this year in both total students, undergrad students, and grad students.

2827 undergraduates, 1137 graduate students, 3964 total for the 2011-12 year

2872 undergraduates, 1184 graduate students, 4056 total for the 2010-11 year

For some reason it's not letting me post external links, but the 2011-12 numbers are up on the link posted earlier in the thread.

Thoughts? I know you guys talked about the consequences of this potentially happening, but now that it's a reality, where does the University go from here? Is it realistic to drastically increase enrollment?

I know this is my first post, so take it as you will, but I am a current student with connections that I don't feel comfortable with disclosing. From the data I got, undergraduate admission decreased from last year to this year. Not sure on overall admission.

Hopefully the University will release the actual numbers soon.
