I don't post on this board often, but thought I would post something recruitment related. Jon Rothstein tweeted that Larry Austin from Xavier will be visiting Valpo. He just finished his sophomore year, so he would sit out a year but could be a great point guard to get for the 2017 season while still being a part of the 2016 team.

As usual, if Valpo can keep turnovers down, we will see an impressive team on the court. Hopefully today is the day we see a complete game (Solid 1st and 2nd halves).

I am really hoping to see a complete game. The Oakland game was the first time this season that I felt we played really really well in the first half. However, something happened at halftime (sadly I was there to witness).

I believe this team is getting close to putting together a whole game and feel Wright State will be a great test. As you said lets keep the turnovers down and play two halves of basketball and get the win tonight!

My guess is the commentators will downplay our team and uptalk WSU. However, I believe they will be presently surprised to see a great Valpo win where the team played an excellent and complete game.

Oren also had a Tweet about how he liked Oakland's schedule... I don't know starting the year off 0-7 without playing a home game doesn't really seem productive (they still play Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan St). So they'll start conference play 3-10 (or worse)... then what? Win the conference and enjoy playing Kansas in the first round of the tournament? Just doesn't seem like a good strategy to me. I'd rather have a balanced schedule that includes some confidence boosters.

This is basically the issue I previously stated about Kampe. Scheduling a few of those games is good but having the high number of games where your chance of winning is 10% or less just is poor scheduling. I'm sure the kids start the season off optimistic but now being 0-7 without a home game is just degrading. I would guess Oakland has zero confidence right now, Kampe needs to do a better job scheduling if he wants to turn Oakland into a top-tier mid-major program. I'm guessing Oakland will finish middle of the pack in the HL, I'm guessing they'll be 9-7 in conference play, which will give them a 12-17 record if they were to enter 3-10. Not very good and have almost no chance of making an after season tournament with a 12 win campaign. Not to mention being sub .500 won't help recruiting. Yes they can say they play top level programs but what do they have to show for it? Just a bunch of losses. Kids want to go to winners not teams that lose to winners.

I think Kampe has acknowledged that his current scheduling is not "correct" for the Horizon League and that he will schedule more mid-majors in the future. No need to keep hounding him for it.

Kampe is just doing what he has done every year. However, the difference will be that this year will be a much tougher conference schedule for them, so they do most likely need to look at a switch.

That being said, I believe he schedules a lot of these games because they generate revenue. It doesn't seem like many of them turn into home and home series, so my guess is they like the revenue that the games bring them.

Although I believe Illinois will win this game, I do not want to count out our chances completely. On paper we are a bigger team than them, which is interesting to say in comparison to a BIG 10 team. Also, they do not have a ton of experience. There roster consists of 5 freshmen and 2 seniors. It will be interesting to see how our new recruits match up against theirs.

It will also be interesting to see how we play on the road since this will also be the first time the team has traveled together. I like that we are going to a tough arena, but don't have to fly to get there. It's time for a true test Wednesday.

I agree about the Freshman, Vashil, and Coleman as they were all great. But what I was extremely impressed with was our rebounding and second chance opportunities! The last couple years we had to make our shots to survive and barely had second opportunities on offense. Last night looked completely different. We are a big team that can rebound! This will help us get through some off shooting nights.

Also, our size alone caused for some really tough shots. I am excited to see where this team can go.

Valpo Basketball / Re: Predicting November

The thing about the Murray State game is that the Racers lost an awful lot of talent in Canaan & Daniel(the big afro guy). Winning that game will depend on whether our freshmen and transfers are better than theirs. Both teams are rebuilding/reloading.

Not only did they lose a lot of talent, but they also lost their starting point guard and arguably best player. With their recent run, their name carries of weight, but they are in a very similar reloading/rebuilding situation as us. I am excited to see how we match up against a team very similar, but one we should beat at home.

Can't post a link, but here is the quote from a story on ESPN. "Murray State point guard Zay Jackson, who was expected to be the Racers top player this season, is out for the year after suffering a knee injury in practice on Saturday."

That being said we should win all our games at home, but I predict loses to Illinois, Ohio, and then against any random team just because we are not on our game.

This is my first post on the forum that I have been reading for years, so sorry to be a wallflower, but here we go...

Check out Hillsdale Exhibition Schedule. This is not a joke of a team if 3 D1 schools put them on their schedule including Indiana. It will be interesting to see how they do in these upcoming games.

Since it is my first post I can't put a link, but here are their next two exhibition games.

Toledo - Nov. 3
Indiana - Nov. 4
