Definitely a top Valpo memory for me. Curtis Stevens confirming the banks were indeed open on a Saturday night...

Quote from: valporun on November 09, 2012, 04:16:24 PMIs it wise to compare this team to the 98 team? This is like what Bears fans are doing right now in comparing this season's Bears defense to the 1985 Bears defense that helped win a Super Bowl. It gets tiresome to keep comparing the past with the current, especially when all we have of the current is two exhibition games that a very small sample size have really watched.

In addition to sample size- you could see the steps Bryce's team had taken heading into that season.  The previous tourney experience alone, one could tell if they made the tourney again in 98 they were on the brink of advancing out of the first round.

A quick side note with the Bears, imo what makes any comparison apples for oranges with the '85 to '12 defense is today's emphasis on player safety. It precludes the style of play that was permissible back in those days- and that aggressive style went a long way towards defining that defense.

Hey all-

Im pretty mum on these boards, often lurking but during the season Ill pop in from time to time.   Wow- after checking the roster, I didnt realize that many D-1 transfers were already here, waiting for the mandatory ineligibility to run its course.  I have pretty high expectations for this team, as Im sure most of you do as well.  Should be a fun ride.  I hope everyone is well.

They seem pretty classless, but they get get credit for completely taking apart what the Crusaders wanted to do. They were totally outplayed in the 2nd half.

At least this year we know VU gets a consolation prize

Quote from: MattCarter on March 04, 2012, 02:25:11 PMIn my honest opinion, trying not to take account membership in Crusader Nation, I think its frankly a slap in the face to put Valpo any lower than a 12 seed. The committee says they don't go on RPI alone only as a guide, so prove it!  Valpo has beaten the 2 time national runner up 4 times in a row and dominated one of the top mid-major conferences in the country.
The fact that they are the 2-time national runner up has no bearing whatsoever. I think it would be rational to hope for a 14 seed if we flatten Detroit Tuesday night.  Flattening Butler in addition would help.  It contributes to the "last 10 games" aspect.  But 12 seed?  Well, I think that would certainly be widely viewed as an absolute joke, and I think we could hardly expect otherwise.

For a 12  to be remote possible, as VU72 said,  a ton of conference  tourney upsets would have to occur.  If we make it... 14 is reasonable...no worse than a 15.

Wow...just too sad. I dont post much anymore, but there are a few here that will remember me from the old Mid Con days when Valpo used to play ORU in Tulsa. Id always meet up with the Valpo and ORU fans for lunch on game day, and Dick would usually be part of the company.  A really, really nice guy through my limited correspondence with him.  Called a great game, too.

Prayers are with his family.
