That article is not accurate. Jennifer doesn't pick the songs the pep band plays or what the Crusaderettes do. She handles the times they play/dance during games. I'm not sure why it was worded that way. The reporter actually recorded the entire interview so I'm not sure why that was so confusing haha. Either way the rest of the article is accurate.

Quote from: valporun on August 30, 2012, 12:42:38 AMYou couldn't put some kind of Valpo banner behind the coach and Aaron, or even the brown Valpo sheet that hangs behind the postgame interviews in the ARC classroom?

Unfortunately it's not big enough for a two person shoot of that kind.

Oh, I read your post wrong. Yes, that will be the format shoot for our shows. It's the best for what we are trying to do at this point.

The shorter interviews we've been doing with Coach Carlson are with just one camera.

Can you post a link to the show you are talking about so I can get a better idea of the format.

I'd expect the gray background for the next few shows. It's not by choice, but we're working on something else. Again, thanks everyone for the feedback.

This isn't a shoot for the official coaches show. This will be done from his office again, but will be posted on Youtube. A different backdrop to accommodate a two person shoot is in the works. We knew when we shot it that was something we needed.

Ya I'll submit whatever questions that are posted. It's up to him to answer them or not.

Probably doing a St. Joe's preview interview with Coach Carlson in the next day or so. Do you guys have anything specific you want answered?

Thanks for the feedback everyone.  Some of the stuff you mentioned we are planning to do already, like having more of a studio/set feel. Think of these first few editions like pilot episodes. If they do well I think you'll start seeing more and more of what you are mentioning.

The VUTV was a good idea. I contacted their programming director on Friday. Waiting for a call back...

We haven't discussed putting it on VU TV, but that's not a bad idea. I'll ask about it.

Something new we are trying in athletics this year. First show was with Women's soccer head coach John Marovich. Still some kinks to be worked out and hoping to get more game footage for B-roll for the upcoming shows. Any feedback is appreciated. The goal is to keep these going throughout the season. The coaches seem excited to participate. We'll have our next coaches show will most likely be with Coach Carlson.

One of the goals this season is to get most if not all teams on social media, and the ones who are already there to the next level. Other than Valpo Athletics, which I manage, most of the teams have interns or players running their accounts. We've been working with teams to make branding unison. I'm also setting up guidelines for them to follow and encouraging them to post more often. The most active team on social media is Valpo Football because Coach Carlson loves it and see's the value in it. Other teams don't care about it or have the time to maintain it unfortunately.

In the way of social media in general, I think you all will see a nice leap this year compared to how things have been in the past. I've tried to get more 'inside' video to share. Really appreciate this kind of feedback. This is the kind of topic that can really help improve Valpo Athletics.

Based on Valpo's tentative schedule, the only date they have free is Dec. 1. Perhaps that could be the game that gets inserted.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer kid. After everything he's been through in his career, he deserves it. He's what's right about college basketball and what a true student athlete is.

On The Horizon / Re: Butler to move to the A-10?
May 02, 2012, 08:28:09 AM
Losing Butler will also hurt the other teams in the HL in recruiting a bit. I remember reading an article called "The Butler effect" where it was interviewing some coaches from the HL. McCallum was saying his second sentence to a recruit after introducing himself was something along the lines of playing in the HL with Butler. This was after Butler went to back to back titles.

Like others have said, losing Butler will hurt, but it wont kill the HL. They'll be just fine. I think Butler will be fine in the A10 as well. Stevens is a great coach who now how more TV time, and can still get recruits. Would be nice to see Oakland in the HL.

This was something I shot and edited. Start expecting more of this kind of stuff. The goal is to eventually start doing coaches shows.

Valpo Basketball / Re: Facilities
March 11, 2012, 08:30:03 AM
While I think the facilities definitely need some upgrading, there also needs to be more fans showing up to game. Sort of the chicken and the egg. I was covering every home game this season, and besides a few of them, the place was pretty much dead. Not just from general fans but the student section as well. Part of the problem is Valpo is such a small campus and they do a bad job of scheduling. Depts don't take into account sporting events when they make schedules. A few times this year students went to other events instead of basketball games because that event fell on the same night of a game. Sometimes they are required to go to them for class.

That game was hard to watch in the second half. Didn't really enjoy McCallum Jr.s jawing at the camera every made shot. But you have to give Detroit credit, they outplayed Valpo big time in the second half. I'm surprised Ray Sr. actually did a decent coaching job. It didn't help that Boggs, Buggs, Bogan and Harris were like 2-15 shooting. It was a nice run this season. At least one more game left in the post-season. Come back strong next year and win both the HL regular season and tournament.

BTW, Ray Jr. is getting shredded on Twitter right now. Not just Valpo fans either. Not surprised.

Got word from the ticket office there were 380 tickets left. But that was about an hour and half ago, before I posted it up on the University's Facebook and Twitter accounts. Hopefully they sell out. Either way the majority is going to be Valpo fans based off the numbers coming out of the ticket office. Should be rocking tonight. Can't wait. Anyone here going to be there? I'll be doing the Valpo Gameday stuff in the media section in E. Stop by and introduce yourself. I'll have the black nike Valpo polo on and shaved head.

QuoteNote: Titans starting small forward Doug Anderson, who suffered a shoulder stinger on Saturday, was cleared to play against Valparaiso.

That's from the FS Detroit article posted. I can't post a link though. It tells me I'm not 'allowed' post external links. If he does play, who knows how effective he'll be.
