It would be nice to have last years defensive players this year as well.

Last years Valpo team would have beaten this years San Diego squad. Revenge would have been the big motivator, plus experienced players. Valpo lost 25 seniors, many with  a lot a playing experience. Patience, this years team is young and will gain valuable experience. There may be a few bumps along the way, but the future is bright. There is some talent there. Davidson is a winnable game.

Good luck to Valpo Football this year! I will miss being in the stands!

Thank you all for a fun four years on the board. Things are looking up for Valpo and I hope that the momentum continues next year. My son will leaving, too bad this coaching staff wasn't here a few years ago. Thanks for the memories Devan Gadson. Safe travels to those that will be at the finale on Saturday. Please say "Hello" if you will be there. It would be a pleasure to meet you.

Valpo 21-19 Dayton

Brandon Hall will be big in this game.

The Defensive players should have been featured on the post game press conference.  And you cant tell me that one of the best receivers in the PFL last year cant get a sniff on this years team after all of the drop passes that I saw on Saturday.  We need to stretch the field for the underneath game to work with our small slot receivers to work.   Are there that many receivers on this team better than Gladney? Do you want to win now or are you playing your guys to get experience for next year coach? 

Great job by the defense. Forced turnovers, 4th down holds! Football is a TEAM game. In some games, the offense will carry the D and vice versa. Here's hoping that we can see both sides of the ball put it together soon.

Hoping the three years of airline tickets, rental cars & hotels pay off this year. Of course, a quality education is the most important factor, but damn, I want some W's. Good luck to Devan Gadson (son), Colin Burke  (Second son) and that secondary on D! No 45 yard over the middle plays this year!! Valpo will not finish last in the PFL. Davidson is the new doormat! Don't count on a win at Campbell. They have gotten better, plus they are gunning for us. Lets go Valpo!!

VU Dad, you are right about the seem routes. We will need either a quick LB to cover the TE or back that releases. Our D backfield is being tweaked with players being moved to new positions with the new D scheme. I did see improvement with only a few of those type plays being completed and a few being broken up or contested by the DB's.   

I was at the Spring Game. This is a different team with a different mentality! I was at practice Friday as well. Very organized, 5 minute stations, rotating drills. Things that winning coaches bring. We have talent our our team. Our talent wasnt coached properly or put in the right scheme or position to win in the past. Defense looks a lot better, gang tackling, not arm tackling. I think that if we sure up the QB spot and the kicking game that we will be alright for 2014.

I was at the game today. The team played well. Two missed coverage plays on the back side of the D were the difference. Mercer's 3 early wins were against cupcakes. They are overrated! Our team is banged up big time with injuries that many people don't know about. Kids are playing hurt. No excuses for not winning, but its reality. Many predicted that we would lose by 25 or 30.  We had a chance to cut it to 7 with 5 minutes left but could not convert on 3rd and 4th down. Bad play calling at a critical time. Actually, the same play called twice, a fade in the back corner to a receiver that was doubled up! Nice to see Devan Gadson back in the starting lineup. I am biased, he is my son! Big loss today with Fred Gladney going down with an injury. He will be missed.

Morehead State cam be beaten!They are a shade of what they were last year. Its a winnable game.


I have enjoyed the commentary on the board over the last few years, but its time to go. There are some knowledgeable fans and former players like myself (not at Valpo) on the board. I will remain positive and see how this season plays out. Keep the passion! We all want the same thing. A winning respectable football program.

I am struggling to see or hear the game as well.

The QB needs o release the ball faster. There was some success running so that is a plus. At some point, man to man will have to be played. Cover 2 or Cover 3 with no pass rush will be get you beat on a weekly basis.

The defense was on its heals because of the offense. Longer sustained drives with key catches on third down will hello.

The players are committed, my son played with a fractured wrist in a cast for 5 games, and I know of other players that were banged up as well. They want to win. Hopefully the hard off season work will pay off along with some hopefully talented incoming freshman.

Laura, I am with you. We all know what has happened the last few years. We know where the program is, but for the players sake, my sons sake, I will watch and observe what happens this season. Its a new season, everyone is  0 - 0 at this point. See you at the Spring Game. 62, see you at the Marist game in October. 

Totally off the recruiting topic, it was nice to see the Valpo Football Team cheering hard and supporting Crusader basketball. They were right between the Detroit bench and basket, 30+ deep.  Win or lose, football or basketball, these are all student athletes doing the best that they can to rep "their" and "your"university. Hopefully football will get some love this season also!

I will fly to the Marist game. I am from NYC. And  a game vs. Steson in FLA would have been great. But, then again, they have a lot of FLA kids on that team and they wont be a gimme W!

The Wagner game is at Valpo. 

Campbell hires Mike Minter, former Carolina Panther! They will be a tougher team to beat next year.

Lets see how many players actually return for the spring semester. If they are going to leave, now is the time to find a new home. As far as the coach is concerned, if he wasn't 86'd by now, he will be the coach again next year.

No one likes to lose! I am sure that the players who signed up for this dont! They have all invested time,money, sweat, etc.They have been ridiculed by not only the other teams annoucers (like the boneheads that I had to listen to today), but by fellow students, fans,and even parents at times. Morehead State, not that good! Dayton, small, not that good! Davidson, horrible! Folks, there is talent on this team, but this team needs a strong leader. And,this team also needs to play the best players, not the favorites! Character has been exemplified by the players for coming back every week under prepared, under coached and taking a beating. Our team has "Character"! Our team needs proper coaching and wins will follow. Time for a change or the players will run for the hills! Without a doubt!
