Here is the second story:

CHICAGO, IL -- Brandon Wood's father, Anthony Wood, was with his son at the time of his arrest after he allegedly struck a woman and threatened another.

Mike Naiditch, Brandon Wood's agent, said the elder Wood was spending the weekend with his son as he prepares in Chicago for the NBA Draft and a professional basketball career.

"I could just tell you this much, that Brandon was accompanied the whole weekend by his father, Anthony," Naidtich said. "And that I'll sit down and talk to Brandon and his father and get more details when we all get a chance to sit down together."

"I don't have a whole lot more to say because I wasn't there and I haven't had a chance to sit down with Brandon and his father. All I can say is that Brandon was with his father at all times, including when this incident was reported."

Wood, 23, was arrested about 3:30 a.m. Sunday in a neighborhood some six miles northwest of downtown Chicago. Police say he slapped an 18-year-old woman, and verbally threatened the 32-year-old homeowner when she asked him to leave her house.

Wood, who finished his college career this past season after transferring to Michigan State, and several people he knew were at the house for a gathering, according to  Chicago police. He was told to leave which led to an altercation. Wood exited the house and stood outside, refusing to leave.

Wood is charged with battery, assault and criminal trespassing of a residence. All three charges are misdemeanor offenses.

Wood's mother, Laronda Wood, tweeted about 1:30 p.m. Monday: "things are not always how it appears........"

Some 20 minutes later, she tweeted: "instead of talking about people try praying for them......"

Naiditch said he doesn't know the particulars of the incident.

"I'm trying to assemble all the pieces and I'm not really trying to be an investigator, either," he said. "Just trying to see where they were.

"From my angle, I'm not quite as interested in the details of what happened. From my angle, being a sports agent, my concern is the guys I represent, Brandon, understand at this time to focus on their basketball and not on anything else. So certainly, anything surrounding a player is disappointing... I prefer my guys to stay home and watch the game on TV and play video games every single day and just workout. Eat, drink, sleep, play basketball."

Naiditch advised both Woods against commenting publicly on the matter.

Wood, a native of Kokomo, Ind. had been staying with a friend in Chicago. He is moving into an apartment Monday, Naidtich said.

Wood posted bond Sunday, according to Chicago police. He is set to appear in Cook County misdemeanor/ordinance court on June 1.

Jay Harris transferring from Valparaiso
By Mark Lazerus on April 24, 2012 11:59 AM | No Comments | No TrackBacks
More to come. Here's the official release.
------
Valparaiso men's basketball head coach Bryce Drew announced today that sophomore guard Jay Harris has been granted a release from his commitment to the Crusader men's basketball program and will be transferring.

"Jay has been a great asset to our program, helping us win 45 games over the last two years," said Drew.  "We are going to miss Jay, but know he is going to be successful at his future destination.  He will always be part of the Valpo family."

Harris appeared in 66 games in his two years with the Crusaders, averaging 6.9 points per game while hitting better than 90% of his free throw attempts.  He posted 9.0 ppg while averaging 25 minutes per game in 2011-2012 as a sophomore, shooting 40.3% from the floor.

"I had a great two years at Valparaiso," said Harris.  "We had two 20-win seasons and I got to play with a league championship team.  Both the coaching staff and the team treated me great, but this decision was best for my family and me.  I'm looking forward to my future."

Valpo Basketball / Stat Sheet Honors
January 17, 2012, 06:36:14 PM
Kevin Van Wijk has been selected for StatSheet's Horizon Player of the Week for January 16th. StatSheet's Horizon Freshman of the Week goes to Cleveland State's Anton Grady. And last but not least, Jay Harris takes home StatSheet's Horizon 6th Man of the Week.
Van Wijk led the entire Horizon in scoring (23.0 pts per game) and free throws (6.0 per game). He also put up 60% shooting and 6 rebounds per game. The Valparaiso junior marched the Crusaders to victories versus Youngstown State and Cleveland State.

Van Wijk led scoring for the Crusaders with 23 points while adding 2 blocked shots in a 76-62 win over Youngstown State. He followed that up by leading the team in scoring with 23 points plus an additional 3 blocked shots in a 72-66 victory over Cleveland State.

This is the first StatSheet Horizon Player of the Week award for Kevin Van Wijk. However, he has received an honorable mention. The runner-up this week is junior Tim Kamczyc from Cleveland State. Honorable mention goes to our own Ryan Broekhoff.

StatSheet Horizon 6th Man of the Week: Valparaiso's Jay Harris

Sophomore Jay Harris, a 6-2 reserve guard, averaged 25 minutes over the two games for the Crusaders. In the win against Youngstown State, Harris got 9 points and 5 assists. After that, in the win over Cleveland State, he racked up 12 points and 4 assists.

This is Jay Harris's first StatSheet Horizon 6th Man of the Week award this season. Tony Meier, a senior forward from Milwaukee, is runner up. Eli Holman, a senior center/forward from Detroit, receives honorable mention. Including this week, Valparaiso players have been named StatSheet Horizon Player of the Week 2 times this season

Stop shooting, Jay when we are in a must score position.  You are in a multi-game shooting slump.

Did it ever occur to anyone on this board that complaining about player performance doesn't help? If you watched the game you would notice that Bogan did not attempt a single shot, Harris attempted only 1 in the first half and maybe there was a reason? The plays being called were for the ball to go down low every possession. That play will not work 100% of the time. Harris' shooting came when we were down and really needed some outside shooting. They didn't fall but he attempted was he was told to by the coach. Same for Kenney.. He attempted to do what he was told. Quit criticizing players when they are simply following the orders dictated to them. Maybe the shooters would have a better rhythm if we actually had plays for them to shoot? It also doesn't help to have 3 guards on the floor that won't attempt a shot which would to force the defense to open up under the basket. We don't make adjustments to the defense until too late. Slump or not a shooter will never get into a flow if they don't shoot. If we were getting the scores down low the forced three's wouldn't be attempted?  Kenney made one and then next possesion didnt get the ball back? One play they had Harris bring the ball up and Buggs spot in the corner? Isnt that backwards?  Quit calling out players when you dont know what they have been told by the coaching staff.

First of all everyone should stop assuming the team is going to be "worse off". There is a lot of talent on the team and if you are a "team" fan you will support whether Brandon is there or not. Now my thoughts on his leaving - Its selfish, point blank. When he was at another institution and didn't get playing time, or get handed the keys to do what he wanted, Valpo accepted him as a transfer and did hand him the keys. The coaching staff put him in the position to garner the notoriety and interest that he has now. Valpo gave him the outlet to become the player he is and now he wants to leave? This strikes me as someone who has decided that his talent is now bigger than the program. When you put yourself first - selfish.

I agree with another poster that if he was graduating and done with ball or had no eligibility it would be a differnet story. But he does have eligibility and is deciding that bigger is better. Its a slap in the face to the coaching staff that brought him in and allowed to grow as a player - without Valpo he wouldn't even have the option to go to a bigger school, if he did he would have done that to begin after he transferred two years ago from a school that didn't give him what he wanted.

While Brandon was definitely a contributor and good athlete, he was not the only one. Go back and look at some games... maybe if he wasn't the focal point others would have contributed more. Now they will get that chance to play as a team versus the B Wood show.

Since he is now a non factor - move on, quit talking about him and focus on the group that is now the team!

And mj - be happy that someone who doesn't want to be here is gone - this will change the chemistry and morale for the better.
