He is no longer listed on the athletics website as the head coach.  Probably just an oversight that he wasn't removed from the Nike camp.  Interesting . . .

Valpo Football / Re: New Football Head Coach announced

From Football Scoop:

"Valparaiso (FCS - IN): Sources tell us that Dave Cecchini's staff will include Lehigh receivers coach Jason Miran (as offensive coordinator), University of Chicago defensive coordinator / secondary coach Ernest Moore (as defensive coordinator / defensive backs coach), Lehigh outside linebackers coach Justin Stovall (as linebackers coach) and Lehigh assistant offensive line coach Vincent Giacalone (as offensive line coach)."

Moore played at Lehigh and graduated in 2008.  Happy to see young, up and coming coaches on this staff!

Highly doubt they would bring back any coaches that were let go in the past. Bernardi quit once, was rehired on Adam's staff and not retained when Carlson was hired.  He has not had head coaching experience. Would expect to see new blood with no ties to the current state of the program.

VUDad - while I feel horrible for what you, the other parents and most importantly the players are going through, I'm not sure I would have bought into a program that had managed just two wins in three years under this HC.  The HUGE red flags were there with this guy long ago.  The revolving door of assistant coaches the most alarming.  Any respected head coach has "his guys" that are there for him and ready to step up to the next challenge. Seems that he has spent his time at Valpo scrambling to replace members of his staff who saw the light.  Definitely not a good sign.  He does seem to excel at sales though.  Maybe a new career choice?

I agree that the talent is there. Parents unite and go to administration to fight for this program.  Valpo will not drop football for the obvious reasons that have been debated here over and over again.  Time for a young coach with an actual vision and the ability to change it up when it's just not working.  There is hope if we can keep this team from bolting (a tall order I'm sure) and give them an HC they can believe in!  Agree 62, Carlson needs to be out now. Show everyone that this embarrassment will not be allowed to represent Valpo any longer.

My bad about that 48-6. 45-12 is much, much better!  Watching the Butler video feed.  Our team seriously looked like they just wanted to get on the bus and head up 65.  This is humiliating for all involved.

Four to go in the first half and we are down 48-6.  We surrender!  Carlson should be canned after this week.  Name an interim for next week and begin the search.  This guy cannot coach!

Or, talk to another coach.  So tired of the same thing week in and week out. Guess what, we need to finish plays!  Coach Carlson must be needing some extra inspiration this morning.  He retweeted eight inspirational quotes including a nice one from Olsteen.  Herein lies the problem. The guy can't think for himself!  Trying to be like the "big time" head coaches without the qualifications.  Hope he enjoys his last two weeks of work . . .  Do the right thing Valpo!

A loss today will definitely seal Carlson's fate.  Would love to see him removed immediately, but doubt that will happen.  To save his job, a victory today will have to be the start of a MAJOR turnaround with several more wins.  Don't see this happening given the track record.  Hasn't happened in 3.5 years!  Agree that Minter has had this game circled and has been hyping it since camp opened. They do not want to lose to Dale Carlson again.  Going to be tough for Valpo to beat them for a third time in spite of the Homecoming crowd.

That said, IMO, Valpo will not drop football.  Hopefully, they will use the Carlson hire to be more selective with the next choice.  We need someone younger, more flexible with the "system'" and foreword thinking.

Good points being made.  Either DC is not capable of coaching any other "system" and adjusting "his" style of play to the talent or it's HIS way at any cost.  Whichever it is, this is someone who does not deserve to be cashing a paycheck as HC at Valpo.  He seems to be very self-absorbed and more interested in the attention he likes to draw to himself.  Not the definition of a team player.  Always has excuses and never seems to take one ounce of the blame for the situation he has created.

When I think about it, why in the world would any decent assistant coach even consider coming to Valpo knowing that he had managed only 2 wins in 3 seasons.  You only jump on board a sinking ship if you are desperate. Open your eyes ML!  This guy is not who he likes to pretend to be. He has never put together a stable staff that this team could grow with, learn from and count on.  I know that changes are a part of coaching staff, but this is ridiculous.

Like I said before, give this team something to get excited about.  Show them you've got their back and make a change now.  I bet the alumni would donate their Homecoming donations meant for recruiting and new headsets for the coaches to the cause!  Money well spent!

If they don't fire him now, please at least take away his social media privileges. Sick and tired of his inspirational quotes, Cubs Win, Cubs Win alerts, what's playing on his iPod during his lunchtime run, restaurant reviews, vacation pictures, etc. Maybe he should spend more time analyzing why he can't win with "his" players instead of feeding his ego tweeting away as a "Head Coach."  Trust us, you are the only one impressed with that title!   Seems to have a lot of time on his hands.  How about we hear from some of the other coaches on the blog and interviewed by Todd Ickow?  Oh that's right, it's all about Coach Carlson . . .  GET RID OF HIM NOW!!

FB alums should not give a cent to this program until there are changes made.  They should demand a meeting with LaBarbera at Homecoming and make it clear to him what an embarrassment this is.  Stand up for your brothers men!

Agree, USC,  the administration needs to step up NOW.  Do not wait until the end of the season to get rid of Carlson.  Show this team that you care.  This debacle has gone on long enough.  Two wins going into the fourth game of his fourth season is ridiculous.  This team is the laughingstock of campus.  I feel sorry for them.  They are giving it their all and are the victims of terrible coaching.  Carlson and his revolving door of coaches have managed to take a program that was already suffering to new levels of awfulness!  Not sure who would be the choice for the interim HC, but can't be any worse than what we are dealing with now!  Time for President Heckler and the Board to prove to these kids and parents who are spending a fortune for a Valpo education that they want football to succeed.  If Carlson is still here next week, we will all get the message.

Note to 2014 recruits looking at Valpo.  Run somewhere else fast.  Things are as bad as they look and worse.

Enough is enough.  Same old post-game comments from Carlson.  Broken record - need to play for 60 minutes, play each play as hard as we can, great effort, great fight, etc.  He's happy to have two weeks to "get things straightened out before Campbell."  Really?  You've had over 3 years to straighten it out.  Absolutely should not have lost to this team.  What now, Mark Labarbera?
