Tevvon is very dynamic right now. Kiser continues to play hard and hustle. Not much else going right.

News flash: This was reported and talked about 6 months ago prior to or near the beginning of the season.  It was asked and answered then.

Well my bad for missing it. I don't always see everything. No one does.

Some names are just way too long!!!

;D  That made me laugh out loud!! That currently isn't an issue with our roster, but it could be in the future.

Valpo Basketball / Team Uniforms

You'll have to forgive me for asking such a trivial question,  but I legimately want an answer to this. Why did the uniforms this year have the last names on the back of the jerseys removed? I personally like the last names on the back. It seems more professional....Well, maybe not the best adjective in an amateur sport, but you know what I mean. High school teams don't have last names on the back, so having them puts a more classy touch I think. I like the design of the new home uniforms, but the road uniforms look like practice jerseys to me.

Guess what?  The only pathetic thing in my sight right now is our fandom.  Its so discouraging seeing everyone dump on the team. Yes the game was terrible but the defense at least kept them in the game. Alec Peters is more than 23 points per game. Teams constantly double team and triple team him making the other players more successful. Give credit to Milwaukee's defense too. They knew that Valpo would be shooting 3's. They defended those shots and lanes where Walker and Hammink would normally drive and score were not there. Peters prescience on the court was worth more than 23 points. Lets not cry over Skara. Or Carter. Or even Jubril's poor decision. It was a successful year up to Peters injury. Wins against Rhode Island, Alabama and BYU were pretty good. I enjoyed this team. I don't think they did not slack off in tonights game as so many others are whining about. Just my 2 cents. And no I'm not a troll. Been a proud season ticket holder foe many years. A VU grad and while I may not post a lot I do read the fan website every day. In the end I know we are fans. Fans have a right to gripe and also to speak well of and for the team. Until next year which many may think will be down, I for one think not. Thanks for reading my "gripe"

Thumbs up on this. People forget very quickly that an entire season shifts course based on a few moments of things not going the right way. One play where Peters gets hurt changes things dramatically. We also had 3 shots at the end to avoid that terrible loss, just couldn't do it.

Last thing I want to say is what disappoints me most: during Alec Peters' 4 years here, only one NCAA tournament appearance. In my opinion, he's the best player the program has ever had. That one NCAA tournament appearance was as a sophomore, when he was still pretty raw compared to what he is now. Can you imagine what a beast Alec would have been in the tournament? He demolished his competition in the NIT last year. He really elevated his game. I will always wonder what it would have been like to see the most developed, most skilled, most polished, and most effective version of Alec Peters in the NCAA tournament. Had this team retained Keith Carter, David Skara, and Jubril Adekoya, we would have been even more legit than last year...Dare I say.

I'm speechless. What happened to tonight, both to Valpo and Oakland, was unbelievable. I wonder if this team just mentally threw in the towel because losing Alec was one blow too many for morale. I don't know though...I think they still played hard, just maybe without focus.

Alright fellow board members I probably shouldn't do this and some may frown upon me for doing so but I am going to break the silence on the Jubril and max situation. I'm not gonna type out the whole story now. maybe some other time so let's go over some highlights. Basketball manager caught stealing from baseball team, kicked off of team, comes back later and asks lottich for a letter of recommendation, lottich says no, basketball manager begins to black mail jubril and max because he did some of their work, lottich questions max and jubril. Jubril admits, max does not. Jubril is probably out for season and max is unknown. That's everything you need to know.

And why should we believe this? I'm skeptical.

Because Chef is an impeccable source and he essentially confirmed it.

Fair enough, but I will maintain some skepticism until it is officially confirmed. It's a big accusation, although I'm not implying that I don't believe these guys are knights in shining armor who would never do something dishonest. It's very possible.

I love it when a guy watches 1 game and becomes a match-up expert:

From the URI board:

Forget last year. Two different teams.

I watched their game against Ball St today. They came back to get the win but trust me, this Valpo team can not hang with us. Peters may get his but we will shut everyone else down.

We will have a huge advantage at the guard positions and I think we will be just fine around the basket as well. Haas will do his best to contain Peters.

They have very little depth. Our style of defense is going to wear them down.

This game isn't a toss-up. We will win handily.

Please note we will have to deal with a couple of real Valpo homers on the ESPN3 broadcast. Will be nice to shut them up with a resounding victory.

Can you tell I'm confident in this one?

Anybody noting what this idiot has to say now?

I just don't think that Valpo is ready for this game. I hope that I am wrong but I think that there will be too many possessions in which they struggle to get good looks and Oregon will be too athletic for many of the Valpo players.

Oregon 78
Valpo 54

I would really like to be wrong on this.

You got awfully close on this!

It seems to me Valpo always has a poor shooting night when they play a ranked opponent. That's also been the story of the season so far. Frustrating.

I think that when this season finishes, Alex will be the undisputed second best player in Valpo history. As for first, I think it would take passing Bryce on the scoring list (very likely to happen), taking the team to the tourney and winning at least one game, and also more longevity in his nba career. If Alec can have a long career in the nba, he will be the best player Valpo ever produced.

Who Alex or Alec?

Oops! Now it's corrected. I think my iPhone auto-corrected me.

Which includes all home games, but not the NIT MSG games (or other "neutral" or road games).

Horizon in 13th as a conference.

Not bad for Valpo, hopefully can grow a bit next season, or by a good step if we start well.

Overall, a little disappointing that 3,500 can be second in conference.

Well consider that 3,500 is a much higher percentage of seats being occupied than Wright State's number. So by percentage, our gym is the most full of any horizon league team each game.

Calipari wants the SEC tourney moved to the beginning of the season and the regular season champ to get the automatic bid.  Very interesting....http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/15885267/kentucky-wildcats-coach-john-calipari-suggests-moving-sec-tournament-november

Well...His teams do peak at the end of the year. Weird idea. It certainly would have served Valpo this past year.

Absolutely super blog by Paul.  This is MUST reading for everyone.  It also shows how unselfish and supportive Matt and his staff have been in this process.

Added later:  I really like that they chose Matt to carry on the "Valpo Way". Matt risks losing his best player, but he and Luke are doing all the right things to make Alec successful. That makes me a proud alumnus.

Very good, insightful article. Based on what Alec is saying, it sounds like he is pleased with the coaching staff and how unselfish they have been through this process. Just hearing those things from him makes me feel optimistic that he's leaning towards staying. But who knows, it's too early to know anything yet.

First major hurdle out of the way! Now we collectively hold our breath to see what he decides next...

And you guys talking about Butler vs. Valpo basketball...You're being silly. Alec won't go to Butler. Let's drop it.

What really stings is about losing this one is we already had him! Guys can change their mind of course. I wonder if having Powell on staff would have kept him coming to Valpo.

My understanding of the situation is this (and I'm more than willing to accept that my sources could be completely right or completely wrong, but this is a message board, so we discuss things...):

Alec does have the desire to play at a level where there are more games that are more visible. The lure of a school that regularly plays on TV, on major networks and gets great ratings is very strong.

That doesn't mean he wants to or is set on leaving Valpo...but that's the scuttlebutt that I've been hearing.

Maybe he does want those things. But maybe he gets a far more diminished role at a school that would fit that description. One thing he can be assured of is that staying at Valpo means he will be the focal point of just about everything when he is on the court. There is little to no guarantee he would be getting that opportunity at a bigger school.

Not a fair shake for Keith. I'm bummed out by this. Let's hope Coach Lottich can fill out the roster with the right players. I'm trusting he can do it.

It's been forever since I posted on this board, but I've been lurking for the past few weeks and decided it's time to come back. All I can ask when I hear this news is why? Where could he go where opportunity will be greater for him? Maybe he wants more PT....

A board legend returns!!

Thanks! It's been fun reading all of the posts during this transition time. In fact, so much so I just had to break my silence.

It does suck not getting NM next season but we can put that 75k to good use in the athletic department. Should be more than enough to put a track around Brown Field, and possibly put some of it towards ARC renovations!

Sader? This guy is bringing some much needed levity.
