Ron Hunter is returning to IUPUI . . . and bringing his college basketball team with him.

Georgia State, led by the longtime former Jaguars coach, is among five non-conference opponents announced Wednesday by IUPUI. The Summit League team is set to play its first home schedule at the newly renovated Fairgrounds Coliseum.

The Jaguars' home opener will be Nov. 14 against Indiana State. IUPUI's other opponents are Ball State (Nov. 22), Georgia State (Nov. 29), Eastern Kentucky (Dec. 13) and South Alabama (Dec. 20).

Hunter's Georgia State team is led by his son, R.J., a Pike High School graduate who was last season's Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year.

Eastern Kentucky is coming off an NCAA tournament appearance after beating Belmont in the Ohio Valley Conference tourney.

South Alabama is coached by Matthew Graves, a former player and associate head coach at Butler. Graves' staff includes Darnell Archey, another former Butler player who holds the NCAA Division I record for consecutive free throws made (85).

I might have to go see Ron Hunter and Georgia State take on Jason Gardner and the IUPUI Jags at the remodeled State Fair Coliseum.

Just seeing Hunter prowl the sideline for the Panthers is worth the price of admission. Panthers vs Jaguars, talk about seeing the CATS AT PLAY!

Also saw that the Indiana Ice of the United States Hockey League (same league as the Chicago Steel) are playing for the Clark Cup, the USHL championship cup. Since they got kicked out of the State Fair Coliseum for the remodeling, they have been playing in the the Pan Am Pavilion and Bankers Life Fieldhouse when the Pacers aren't using it.

especially when the home team greases the floor in front of his bench

I noticed that Kevin Ware, the Louisville player who broke his leg in a gruesome way during the NCAA tournament in 2013, and inspired his team mates to go on and win a National championship, has transferred to Ron Hunter's program at Georgia State. Ware is from Conyers, GA and will be closer to his family.
