I would have liked to see John Groce end up at either YSU or CSU. Figured he was probably not in his play at YSU given Bo Pelini's price tag, but could have been at CSU (successful Ohio-based MAC coach who struggled at a power school seems to fit their MO).

All things considered, this seems like a solid hire for the Penguins. He's a Bob Huggins guy so he'll carry some weight, especially in Eastern OH, Western PA, and WV. Youngstown was never going to make the splashy hire, and his profile is that of a prospect with a chance of success, if given institutional support. Anyone who clamored for Valpo to hire Greg Tonagel last year has to acknowledge this as no less risky to YSU than he would have been to us.

Cleveland State's hire was less-than-impressive though.
