It's right around the corner. I always enjoy all the social media posts about past and current students' experiences and seeing all the love/appreciation for the university.

Looks like some new crowd funding projects are coming too!

I'm excited for it. It's a really fun day to be both on campus and on social media. Also we usually hear some new donations announced that day. I believe the annual Spring Concert announcement is looped in to that day as well where the students find out who is coming to campus. This year they have changed it up and will have 3 artists plus rides and other activities so that will be exciting for the current students.

I also like how, on the website, you can see the different funds and goals and how they are breaking it all up.

Maybe even an ARC renovation giver!  ????

Thank you for posting the crowdfunding opportunities. Does anyone know why the time windows are so short?

M

My guess for the shorter timeline is that they are trying to piggy back on the day of giving while encouraging new donors with specific projects they can give to...but that's just a guess

The Day of Giving has been pretty exciting over the past couple of years. SUPER!

Tangential question:

Does anyone know how aggressive our "financial development" people have been in terms of visiting and interviewing other universities like ourselves in terms of successful execution of fund raising inititiatives.

This is just me, but my sense is that we do what we always have done (let's stay comfortable) and have been reluctant to climb out of the box.

My point is that we can continue to be financially conservative in terms of spending (not a bad thing IMO), but why not blow the doors off in terms of fundraising?

Don't know, however Mark Heckler brought in new folks when he was hired as did Mark LaBarbera.  See leaders below:

Both came from DePauw.

I know some of them went to Butler recently and came back feeling pretty good about the situation at Valpo.

How would we compare favorably to Butler?

Kuka's bio looks great.

The VP - less so   And terms of performance.........Now where does the $250 million goal now stand?

The reference was to fund raising folks.  The answer is a larger endowment.

FYI

VU = $235.2 million (2017-Wikipedia)

They also did a consultation with a group that looks at longstanding financial health of universities that works with top colleges and universities. The impression I got was that overall our financial health was strong and that we were on better footing than many in terms of long-term stability. I think it's important to remember that sometimes, when we see universities invest in massive infrastructures it could be a good long-term strategy or it could be a last attempt to increase enrollment or revenue in some other way and may not really pay off in the long run.

There's a glut in Universities, especially smaller private ones and over extended state systems, especially in the Midwest and on the East Coast. Saint Joseph's already closed and I imagine others may not be far behind so long-term financial stability is important outside of blowing up our budget with bonds and debt that we could struggle to pay back if we over extend ourselves.

Happy Valpo Day everyone. Looking g forward to making an extra gift to the Valpo fund and to one of the crowd funding projects today. Excited to be blessed enough to make this year 5/5 to give on Valpo Day.

We sports fans need to step it up and finish the funding for the piece of equipment for the training staff.  If we, as a group, can't contribute a couple thousand then I would hope we would stop complaining about the lack of money for ARC renovations. TODAY IS THE DAY!!

STILL NEEDED AS OF 7:13 AM:  $2,208

$880 raised of the $2600... I did mine in honor of Rod Moore... this machinery appears to pickup where he left off!   Getting our injured athletes "back in the game, sooner"...

I think it is just me.   But I tried to make a gift on line, but I can't get designation to come up on the drop down.

Can someone on this board enlighten me?

Enjoyed the email with the day of giving stats. $715,000 without a matching donor seems pretty solid to me! Congratulations to the entire Valpo family.
