UCSB's apparently a consensus top-10 team.

VU's having a decent season with e.g. a result (a 0-0 tie, in this case) on the road at Michigan State.

A lot of new faces, but somewhat reminiscent of last year's historic team - at least to this decided non-expert.  Fairly dominating of possession, with a reasonably solid (if not as impressive as last season's, at least not yet) back line, but with a certain lack of conversion into really dangerous chances.

Yannick Iwunze looks definitely interesting, reminiscent in some ways of Antonijevic.  Superficially, at least, as the tallest player on the team.  But, also, with a certain ability to play either center back, or go forward as a striker.  He loves to handle the ball, and does make long forays up the sides as well.

I would like, selfishly, perhaps, to see a return to the quality corner kicks of last season.  But, probably, we'll get there.

All this is meant to be going on right now, but I'm not seeing much.... An occasional commercial.  No video, no audio (from either the audio link, nor the video link), no stats.  Looked impressive, from a distance.

All right - we've got some static.  And maybe a video feed of a jumbotron.

Coach Gore's planning to watch - he and Bart were at the game Sunday.

So can you!

Hmm... some audio going over here

I guess the game's not really supposed to start at 9:30?  OK - apparently delayed by a UCSB women's game.  10 minutes to kickoff?

The live chat at
http://ucsbgauchos.com/sports/m-soccer/Gameday_Central/msoc_9.7
is going.

I'm getting commercials for a visual and static for sound. Video also skipping for me and I've got a pretty good connection where I'm at. SMH

Thanks, agibson, for the audio link. Much better chance to follow the match there

If you click on the live chat link, you get a page that looks exactly like the Cover It Live and video setup we have for men's basketball games. I'm excited for this...

They're calling Zobeck a potential MLS draft pick - maybe that originally comes from Avery.  One sportscaster attributed it to him.

Audio's working now on the video feed, a little quiet.  But, I'm only getting a few frames per second of video - on an entirely decent net connect.

Really good quality play-by-play.  Tempting to just turn the video off.

Dangerous free kick coming against Valpo, just outside the box.

Yeah, I saw on their live chat that the video is from the video board, explaining the choppiness of the frames. Gerry Fall, the broadcaster, is doing a wonderful job of painting a picture of the game. I honestly feel like he's been calling soccer matches for decades, and he hasn't mispronounced Valparaiso at all.

Best quality game of the four I've seen of VU so far this season.  Valpo looking decent, occasionally even dangerous on the attack.  UCSB clearly much more capable putting an offensive together than the other opponents I've seen, and VU still hanging tight.

GOAL!

And here I was about to complain again about this season's corners.  Well done!

From Valpo's game notes

"Facing a Ranked Foe: Valpo's game at #9 UC Santa Barbara marks the sixth straight season that the Crusaders have faced at least one nationally-ranked squad. It will be the Crusaders' first match against a top-ten team since falling in overtime, 1-0, at #8/10 USF in 2009. Under Avery, Valpo is just 1-8-2 against ranked opponents, but three of the defeats came in extra time and only two were by more than one goal. The Crusaders remain strong defensively against the nation's best sides, as they've surrendered just 13 goals in their 11 fixtures against top-25 sides under Avery."

...

Do you believe?

I am getting just a few frames/second as well, but good to see us ahead of a top 10 team!  If this stays true, setshot can eat some crow on our ability to compete nationally  :)

The score at half is Valpo 1- UCSB 0!! Can't wait for the final 45 minutes of soccer action here.

UCSB's had a bit more fire in their belly this half.  A lovely goal brought it to 1-1, and UCSB's had most of the possession this half.
