Valpo women's soccer closed out its two game Michigan exhibition road trip unblemished with a 2-0 victory over Oakland. Coupled with the 2-2 draw they earned against Western Michigan in Kalamazoo, the Crusaders should have plenty of confidence going into Friday's season opener against the Phoenix in Green Bay. Valpo battles EIU to a scoreless draw. They really controlled the first 90 minutes and deserved a better result. All credit goes to the Panthers' goalkeeper for keeping the score level and giving her team a chance to stay in it. As a Crusader fan, you've gotta be happy with the draw and the  1-0-1 start on the road, but you can't help but feel like you had a real chance to be 2-0. Next match Friday night at home against Toledo at 7:30 as part of a doubleheader with the Men's team taking on IUPUI at 5.

By the way, I really am enjoying the WSO 2018 season theme:  "Burn the Ships!"

It derives from Cortez' order, upon reaching the shores of Mexico, to burn his ships, thus removing any chance for retreat and, therefore, forcing total commitment to the job at hand.  The theme has been used by motivational speakers for some time and works well in a sports situation.

And before we get all PC here, yes, back in the 16th century, the result was the conquering of Mexico and the Aztecs and a lot of bloodshed.  That is not the point.  The point is total commitment and never looking for ways to avoid pushing forward.
