The  VB team defeated WSU 3-0, tonight.  Besides a dominating victory, there was another exciting feature - video replay on the new video scoreboards.  The replays were actually shown between games, but it is a first step.  Oh, and the picture was pretty darn good.   :)

Let's see if they break it out vs. Butler today!

Has anyone ever noticed over the years Carin Avery has been here, that our VB team is usually much more in shape than the other teams in our conference?  I don't know if it is just the type of girls she recruits, or if she has a great workout regiment for the team, but I am sure that has only helped throughout her tenure!  Milwaukee/Valpo VB seem to always be in better shape, much as VU/ORU were in Mid-Con days.

Always good to see Valpo beat Butler, independent of sport!

Their #15, Maureen Bamiro, looked tough.  Very crafty player.  Little dinks over our blockers, etc.

Their blockers looked pretty fierce, in general.

Glad we came out with a win.

(Only one "player of color" on their team, too.)

Butler's athletics website report on Butler at Valpo VB match:

http://butlersports.com/sports/w-volley/2011-12/releases/201110019qaa0q

"Making unforced errors is our enemy right now," head coach Sharon Clark said. "We played well in the first two sets but made far too many unforced errors in the third and fourth sets."

I was looking for some info on Butler mens basketball when I happen to see this story on the VB match.

So the VB team has avenged the loss to YSU. Can we get the VB team scheduled against Franklin, Duquesne, Morehead State and San Diego too? If we beat our opponents in another sport does that take the bitter taste of defeat from the lips of our football players? Not really but it sounds good on a message board.

Hey, lighten up.  Did you really think I was serious?  And BTW, the volleyball team could beat the heck out of all those teams!  ;)

It will be interesting to see what happens in the tournament.  It looks like Milwaukee, CSU, and Valpo again are the top teams this year, with all the others far behind.  We played both of them very well, losing in the 5th set.  Our loss against GB should not have happened, as it appears they just played their best game while we played our worst.

Yikes, we absolutely blew the games today.  Lots of unforced errors, and let them block a lot of shots.

Very disappointing loss.  Up big in 2 sets & lose both.  I would guess that coach Avery was not a happy camper.

Another disappointing loss to IUPUI today, a team we have routinely beaten in the past.  Do we have injuries right now?  We are losing games we shouldn't be losing, and that is not characteristic of an Avery team.

I also am disappointed with recent play.  It sure looks like we won't have a chance to go to the NCAAs the way we are playing.  Seems like they have lost that "killer" instinct".

More of the same tonight at Butler.  I think they have folded their tent.  I'd be surprised if they make it out of the first round tourney games.

I'm not liking what has happened with our volleyball team. Do we just not have the height or volleyball skill that we had for the first 5 seasons under Coach Avery?

valpotx

Not sure what is going on, we were doing well until the last few games.  Avery has been the coach for closer to 9 seasons I believe

I've seen most of the games this year. I'd be the last person to call myself a volleyball expert in terms of technique and gameplay, but I'll try it out...

We're making a lot of unforced errors and being blocked a lot. IUPUI blocked us 18 times Tuesday, Butler 20+ last night. Perhaps our offensive is getting too predictable and relying to heavily on certain players and shots. This is also a fairly young team (9 underclassmen), and with four more road contests in a row and 2 months already logged, they might also be experiencing the late-season grind as it were... just a few thoughts.

Also, it's Carin's 10th year as head coach, she was an assistant for 2 or 3 years prior under Becky Maddon [sic?]

Thanks for the insight.  We are completely dominating Wright State right now.  Won the first set 25-4, and are up 12-6 in set 2 now.

only won the second set 25-20. hopefully we can hold on in the third set. but wsu is apparently awful in volleyball this year, at 4-21. so we should win handily.

the crusaders take set 3, win 3-0 (25-4, 25-20, 25-16). hopefully this serves to reinspire the troops to finish strong.

#21
(25-16, 25-23, 25-19) against Youngstown.  With these two wins against bottom-half teams, Valpo has two games left in the regular season, against the top.

They should finish in the top half (e.g. 2-4).

Unfortunately they lost to Cleveland State, this afternoon, 3-1.  They are in 4th place, one game behind Butler, with their remaining HL game next Friday against undefeated UWM.  An upset would be nice.
