USI was 12-17 overall and 6-12 in the OVC.  Not much of a bump up. But they do play in a beautiful 4,800 seat arena.

It's also an hour and a half drive for mom and dad versus the 4½ journey to Valpo from Depauw, IN.   Louisville is even closer and D-I Bellarmine (33 miles), who is in the SoCon, is there. Interesting choice she made.

If you have ever driven Hwy 64 (not interstate) in southern Indiana it's like the location of Southern Utah. It's hidden in the hills and caves of a very rural area. Even Louisville can seem a long, long way away. Anyone know the Civil War significance of Depauw, Indiana?

Morgan had sent spy Thomas Hines and a party of 25 Confederates, posing as a Union patrol, on a secret mission into Indiana in June to determine if the local Copperheads would support or join Morgan's impending raid. After visiting the local Copperhead leader, Dr. William A. Bowles, Hines learned that no desired support would be forthcoming. He and his scouts were soon identified as actually being Confederates, and, in a small skirmish near Leavenworth, Indiana, Hines had to abandon his men as he swam across the Ohio River under gunfire. He wandered around Kentucky for a week seeking information on Morgan's whereabouts.

By now reduced to 1,800 men, Morgan's main column had arrived on the morning of July 8 at Brandenburg, Kentucky, a small town along the Ohio River, where Hines rejoined them. Here, the raiders seized two steamboats, the John B. McCombs and the Alice Dean. Morgan, against Bragg's strict orders,[4] transported his command across the river to Indiana, landing just east of Mauckport. A small company of Indiana home guards contested the crossing with an artillery piece, as did a riverboat carrying a six-pounder. Morgan chased off the local defenders, capturing a sizeable portion as well as their guns. After burning the Alice Dean and sending the John B. McCombs downriver with instructions not to pursue him, Morgan headed away from the river.

Governor Oliver P. Morton worked feverishly to organize Indiana's defense, calling for able-bodied men to take up arms and form militia companies. Thousands responded and organized themselves into companies and regiments. Col. Lewis Jordan took command of the 450 members of the Harrison County Home Guard (Sixth Regiment, Indiana Legion), consisting of poorly trained civilians with a motley collection of arms. His goal was to delay Morgan long enough for Union reinforcements to arrive.[5]

Maj. Gen. Ambrose Burnside, commander of the Department of the Ohio with headquarters in Cincinnati, quickly organized local Federal troops and home militia to cut off Morgan's routes back to the South. Morgan headed northward on Mauckport Road, with another brother, Colonel Richard Morgan, leading the forward elements. On July 9, one mile (1.6 km) south of Corydon, Indiana, the county seat of Harrison County, his advance guard encountered Jordan's small force, drawn in a battle line behind a hastily thrown up barricade of logs. The colonel attacked, and in a short but spirited battle of less than an hour, he simultaneously outflanked both Union wings, completely routing the hapless militia. Accounts vary as to the number of casualties of the Battle of Corydon, but the most reliable evidence suggests that 4 of Jordan's men were killed, 10-12 were wounded, and 355 were captured. Morgan counted 11 dead and 40 wounded raiders. Among the dead Federals was the civilian toll keeper who perished near his tollgate. Raiders killed a Lutheran minister, Reverend Peter Glenn, on his farm, 4 miles (6 km) from the battlefield, and stole horses from several other farmers.

The story of the killing of Pastor Peter Glenn (originally from Pennslyvania):


Rev. Mr. Glenn was the pastor of a Lutheran church at Corydon, Indiana. He was a strong union man but too old for service in the army. He resided in the country, not far from Corydon. His family consisted of his wife and children, among which were two full grown daughters. One evening just as they had eaten their supper, a number of soldiers on horseback made their appearance at the parsonage. One of the soldiers, quite gentlemanly in his appearance, came into the house and inquired whether they could give them something to eat? The pastor said, "Yes certainly, if there are not too many of you." "Well there are only ten of us, and we are very hungry." The women commenced getting the supper. The ten men, who consisted of the the rebel, Col. Morgan and his staff, then came into the house, and each man had his liquor in his canteen--and they took pretty heavy drafts, so that by the time the supper was ready they were all pretty well intoxicated. Of course Mr. Glenn did not know who his obstreperous guests were. At the supper table the wife and daughters were most grossly insulted by those men. Mr. Glenn could bear it no longer and began to remonstrate with the men for the rudeness. But they only laughed at him, and said, "Old fellow, you evidently don't know who we are, or you would not talk so to us." "Well I supposed you were gentlemen, and would respect the rights of hospitality, and in the presence of ladies so as not to act so rudely." Morgan replied, "To hell with your preaching!" and drawing his revolver he said, "Now, old fellow, you had better shut up, or you will get yourself riddled." At that moment, Mr. Glenn arose, perhaps to leave the room, and one of the men cried out, "Shoot him!" Morgan fired, and the pastor fell with a bullet in his brains. As soon as the family saw this they fled and hid themselves in a thicket not far from the house, and thus escaped the brutality of those infamous rebels. [size=inherit][7][/size]

She transferred to IUNW. Does anyone know if we tried to get her.
