Valpo won after being down by 8 in the first half.

Rossi didn't play until the second half and Ben Boggs didn't play at all. Anyone know Boggs reason for sitting?

Capo needs to stop shooting the 3 and stay with the inside game. Capo's muscle in the post is outstanding and very very welcome.

Against a quick athletic team Bogan is not the answer at point guard. Boy, will Dority be welcome relief if he acclimates well to the rotation in December.

Fernandez has not perfected the dunk yet. Hopefully he improves before a meaningful dunk is missed. On the other hand Vashil is improving in his floor game ever more slightly but improve he has. A really good sign when he made 1 of his 2 FT's.

Buggs' athletic ability and tenacious defense is so awesome. He really is going to have a great year. Erik made 2 FT's and I almost forgot how many he missed the last few years.

An interesting game to listen tot.  first half sounded like many games last year where we couldn't hit a three and we were relying on the 3 to win.  Second half Bryce said "call off the 3" and we respond with a dominating win.  Short three guys, we still win easily and show a lot of versatility. Nice.

Boggs tweaked his ankle in practice yesterday and sat out as a precaution.

I think Boggs has a tweaked ankle.
As far a 3 pointers goes, in the second half, they took half as many and made twice as many , as in the 1st half, for a total of 3 -21 - a pathetic 14.3%.

Game should serve as a wake-up call!  We can't have a half like that first one again in Horizon League play.  We won't be able to come back.

The second half was a much better showing as they seemed to wake up.  Besides the missed threes, the turnovers first half were just silly.

I think our starting five is solid and ready to go.  Our second unit has yet to gel.  Vashil just needs to play more and keep the ball above his head, Bobby needs to stay INSIDE the 3 point arc.

I think we are as ready as we can be going into Georgia Southern.  Now why are we making it a "white out"?  Their colors are blue and white... We now have 3 colors and they aren't white.  Am I missing something?
The two greatest things on earth?  Short hair cuts and Valpo Victories!

buggs' ft shooting last year was much better than his previous two years of play. hopefully the upward trend continues again this year.

Capobianco appears to be as good (or better) than advertised!  I don't expect him to score 20 every game, but he really looks like he could be a 17 and 8 guy, which would be good enough for first team HL consideration.  He's clearly going to be better than Edwards was last year.

After these first two games, I bet Crean is wondering why he let Bobby leave IU.

Have you looked at IU's roster?

I bet Crean is very happy that Bobby found a good place for himself and that as long as Valpo isn't playing IU he's happy that Capo is helping Valpo win and making a difference. I'm sure Tom is clapping for Bobby all the time.

I imagine Crean hasn't second guessed himself once on the Capo situation. Let's hope Bobby continues o play inside and dominate against bigger more talented teams. So far I'm happy with his play around the rim, let's just stay inside the arc big fella!

I can safely say that Crean isn't missing Bobby at all. He has the #1 team in the nation, preseason national player of the year, and the #1 recruiting class (or #2 depending on where you look).

I am also sure he hopes Bobby does well at Valpo, but realistically there wasn't going to be much PT for Bobby at IU.

I am interested to see how teams play Buggs on offense. Late last year teams were sagging off him and daring him to shoot. That of course makes it more difficult to get into the lane, and clogs up things for everyone else. If he can at least knock down an outside shot occasionally, that would help a lot.

I feel that Bobby needs to keep his shooting within 10 feet. There is no reason for a big his size to be playing on the perimeter. We will lose a large rebounding advantage if he's playing on the perimeter, or shooting it from there. I would rather he has a shooting line of 9-12 from 2-pt range, rather than 0-5 from 3-pt. I like the thought stated above of 17 and 8 from Bobby, but if he stays on the inside on both sides of the court, he'll be a double-double guy of the same variety as Ryan, plus we'll get a lot more rebound advantages that we lost in the past. Once we can get some game video going, it will be nice to see how the defenses play our frontcourt, opening up shots and passing lanes for our guards. With a line like Vashil, KVW, and Capo, plus a lot of defenders still focusing on Ryan, it will open up a lot of opportunity for our 1s and 2s to get some good shots, and hopefully some better shot selection than just chucking the ball up from the arc.

Since I wasn't on this board then, what were the consensus feelings on Cory Johnson's outside game?

Did people feel the same way they did about Capobianco's (outside game), and if not, why?

Just wondering.  I feel like I can't be the only 5'7" white dude that ever watched a game and said "if *I* were 6'10" i would NEVER leave the lane!!!"

Cory Johnson's outside game was a tale of two years.  He shot 51% on 3 pointers during his junior year and 22% on 3's during his senior year, with almost all of the misses short, not long.  Throughout his VU career, Cory was capable of hitting a mid range jump shot, but that was not his expertise.  The way I see it, Capo is just a bigger, more physical Cory Johnson.

Thanks, vuweathernerd. Don't I wish I had a Nikon D3S, vu72! I use a Canon 2Ti (550D), which I believe is one-tenth the price of the Nikon D3S.

A couple of folks have contacted me with messages asking for high resolution copies of the photos, for which I felt honored and was pleased to supply the images. Also, I don't want to bother people with too many photos on the board. Therefore, I have begun a photo blog, Valpo Basketball Photography, where I will post many more pictures whenever I attend games, and they will be available for high-resolution download to anyone who wants by simply clicking on the photo images. I have already posted about 20 photos, and I will be adding more soon. Anyone interested can find them at the following link: http://photography226.wordpress.com/

Tom Crean misses Bobby Capobianco about as much as he misses Tom Pritchard.  In his first three years, Crean lacked a very good Center, and now that he has Zeller, he doesn't miss Capo or any other big man.  But next year, when Zeller is gone to the NBA, and Capo is the star of Valpo's team, then Crean will miss Capo.

Wouldn't this have been Cap's last year had he stayed at IU?  With big guys like Hanner Perea still on the roster and that incoming recruiting class IU will be loaded for years to come.

I'm glad we have Cap, and just wonder how short we can make his name in our efforts to save time and energy.
