I believe 04-05 was Berdiel's red-shirt year....so does that count? Also, Loyd and Howard were not in the top 20 at that point in their career...so does that count?

Good point--I wanted to say "roster" rather than "team" to make clear it didn't matter whether active or not.

As far as whether they were top-20, that would require going back through each year's media guide, and even I don't have that kind of drive.

Besides, as a kid (early 90s) I remember them only listing a top-10 list for many years.  Wonder when they went to 20?

As a side note, check out what Nebraska (sorry to bring them up) does in their media guide for their 1000-point scorers (they have several Regionites in their history) at this link.  http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=100&ATCLID=205718312.  It's hard to get to, but they have 40 pages of history (161-200)--the 1000 point club is at 171 through 174.

I think we really need to bring out our history more -- we have a great past and these players deserve more than just a line, a date, and a number.

Horizon League Tournament: Most turnovers?  Most in a win?

If we don't set those, most in a championship game?

Turnovers in a Valpo game?  In a winning effort?

In thirteen years of stats, 25 Valpo turnovers is the most I see in _any_ game.  The only other instance, apart from tonight's win, was a loss against UNC at the United Center, December 20, 2008.

Apart from that, the most I can find is 24 Valpo turnovers.  February 4, 2012.  In a home win.  Over Wright State.

23 earlier this season at New Mexico, of course.  In a losing effort.

Not sure if I'll manage any longer back than that for Valpo.  Or any history for the Horizon League tournament or championship game.  I'd love to know the stats, if someone has access to a better archive.

The Fort Wayne Mad Ants announced today that they have acquired Ron Howard. Howard has spent the 2010-11 season in Australia and has recently been waived. Howard will fill the spot of Carlos English who was waived by the team last week.

Howard, nicknamed "Mr. Mad Ant", is a Fort Wayne fan favorite since he has been with the Ants since their inaugural season. Howard has played in 124 games for the Ants, has recorded a total of 2,018 points, and has averaged 16.3 points per game in his career. He averaged 20.6 points per game and was named to the 2009-2010 NBA D-League All-Star team last season.

3-1  neutral   ... including wins at the Boston Garden (Holy Cross), Buffalo Coliseum and Madison Square Garden (LIU)
as verified by a combination of the Official Score Book in the Archives, and the books of our opponents....

so the only other years that might upset the applecart on Home wins (16) and Road wins (10) was 1923-24.
Judy Miller in the Archives did some checking:

Hate to burst your bubble.  The 1923-24 season - all played after 1/1/24  --

13 home wins
11 road wins  (Some may have been neutral Sites... they are still checking some of the books)
Record for '23/'24 = 24 wins, 4 losses

Interesting that all of the games that year were played after 1/1/24.  The Old College Main building had just burned down and a lot of campus activities were curtailed.   The Gymnasium didn't burn down until 1927, when we started a 12-year run of playing our home games at then-Valpo High School (now Ben Franklin Middle School).

So, one more 'research issue' on  Number of Road Wins during a single season, but the record set this year is at least 89-years-old.  But the record for Home Wins was set by this year's team.

Since 1997 25 is our highest turnover amount of turnovers in a win. 30 vs Purdue in 1997 is highest in a loss.

In 2002 we destroyed IUPUI in the conference tourney game, but committed 20 turnovers. That's our next highest mark in a conference tourney game, with 25 being the highest.

Can't go back any further, but I don't think they even played basketball before 1997.

As y'all know, there hasn't been a lot to do on this thread this year, since it's kind of a 'transitional' year between the previous excellence of a great sr. class and the potential excellence of a great fr. class.

Nevertheless!  Some things to keep an eye on:

--If Dority scores his average for the rest of the year (assuming only the games we're guaranteed--10 more plus 1 conf tourney) he would end up with 544 points.  The 10th best single season mark is 565, most recently by B-Wood.  Given he's averaged 20 ppg the last 5, who wants to bet against him?

--Gueye needs just 4 more blocks to move into top-10 country (season).  At his current rate, he would end up with 58, and the 3rd best season all time (behind soph & jr Raitis).  He'll have to step it up to move into top-10 all time (Jim Stueve with 72), but still, for one season, not bad.  Also will win the "Seven Footer Shooting FTs Award", of course given out by Shaq and Dwight Howard at halftime of the NIT quarterfinals on OLN.

--More Dority--at his current rate, 69 3 pointers for the season, which would leave him just shy of top-10 seasons--quietly, I should think!  An extra postseason game would get pace him to 71, #10 and tied with sr Jim Ford and jr Casey Schmidt.

--He's on pace to make 151 FTs, which would be the third best season here EVER, behind sr Bruce Lindner and jr Dick Jones.
