Fun with numbers:

How good is Gueye?  If he didn't take another FT all year, Carter could make his next 20 in a row and still be behind him.

Jubril has one more made FT--and 13 more attempts.

Vashil has 5 fewer FTs--despite 50% more attempts!!!

Here's how many consecutive makes Vashil would have to make just to get to Gueye-level excellence: 125.

(Hell, Rob Cavanaugh couldn't even do that.)

Jordan Coleman:  9 more 3PT attempts than Capo.   ...5 fewer makes.

#No3sJordan

Best AST-to-TO ratios (this side of Chadwick, 5.0, and Davidson, 3.0, of course):
1)  Yeo 1.56
2)  Lexus 1.32
3) Coleman 1.24
4)  Carter 1.13
5)  LVD 1.08

Worst...
5)  Jubril 0.96
4)  Capo 0.75
3)  Peters 0.74
2)  Vashil 0.21 (m'gawrsh)
1)  Gueye 0.19 (egads)

Dority:  415 pts in 24 games (17.3 ppg)
  NEEDS:  150 pts in 8 (guaranteed) games (18.8 ppg) to make top 10 pts/season

Dority:  53 3pters in 24 games
  NEEDS:  18 in 8 games (almost on pace) to make top 10 3pts/season

Dority:  110 FTM in 24 games
  NEEDS:  23 in 8 games to make top 10 ft/season.  On pace for 147 (#3 all-time!)

Gueye:  40 blocks in 24 games (1.7 bpg)
  NEEDS:  1 more to move into top 10 blk/season.  Avg for rest of year would give him 53 for season (#6 all-time)
  Recorded the 100th block of his college career vs. Milwaukee; now up to 103.

AND LADIES AND GENTLEMEN OUTTA NOWHERE

VASHIL:  45 blocks in 24 games (1.9 bpg)
  NEEDS:  nothing.  Already the #9 season ever.  At current rate would have 60 for season (#3 all-time!)
CAREER:  59 blocks in 51 games.  Needs 13 more to move into top-10 all-time (on pace for 15 more this season; would leave him #t8 with Lubos with a season to play).

And not to get way too far ahead, but 1.875 bpg next year would leave him #2 all-time.

FUN FACT TIME when was the last time we had TWIN TOWERS with more than 40 blocks in the same season?

Let's see what Tex has.
"What are Raitis and Antti?"
Nope, I'm sorry, that's wrong.  What did you wager?  THE ENTIRE VALUE OF JOSH HAMILTON'S CONTRACT?  What were you thinking?  Oh, I'm sorry.  Just "the entire worth of Josh Hamilton".  Oh--well played. No big loss there.

Historyman says "Who are Gomes & Grafs?"
Good guess.  But wrong.  I'm sorry you wagered so much, but I appreciate your self-confidence.

The correct answer is
"Who were Zoran Viscovic & Ivan Vujic?" in 1998-99.

That was actually the only time Valpo had two players with 40 blocks in a season....that is until today.

I would have started with "I'll take Valpo records records for $300, Alex." then "who are Vucovic & Visjic?" Of course that would have been wrong also. I would have finished in the negative and been out of Final Jeopardy.

FUN FACT TIME Many of our stats are dominated by recent players, i.e. the last 20 years.    Which makes some sense, right?  BUT WHO is the only player in the last 20 years to post a top-10 FTs-made season, until LVD does this year?

I wonder what his brother Mike is Opp to?

anyway, just one little thing... the game on Saturday is the 1100th game since we turned D1 in 1977.... we are at 556-543 for the first 1,099 games...and the point total is equally close 76,844 (69.92ppg) for,  and 76,772 (69.86ppg) against... a difference of 72 points.

We are 55 points away from 2,000 for the season... a plateau we have hit every year since 1992-93... Except in 2008-09, when we only managed 1,901.

I propose a 3-month ban for anyone bringing up that season ;)

Unless it's to show how much an aberration it is.

Thanks for the updates!

Logan Jones recruiting video:

Logan playing basketball

Probably we should have followed him a little longer before we offered...  ;)

I thought about bringing up Logan Jones too but at least I managed to restrain the impulse. Like I said a few years back I suspected that we might have been making a mistake with that recruitment when I saw the reaction  ??? of a Madison resident to the VU interest in him. I hope Milan doesn't catch wind that we are again talking about his favorite player.

For the record that was the one and only season that I watched more girls games than guys and it wasn't even close.

Noticed that when Jubril grabs one more board, we will have 6 with 100+ rebounds.

Now, on one hand, that doesn't seem like a lot--it's just 3 per game when you play 33, right?  I MEAN DEAR GOD YOU CAN JUST STAND THERE AND PROBABLY THE BALL WILL BOUNCE TO YOU THREE TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF FORTY MINUTES RIGHT?

...and yet, it's hard to do:

WSU only has 2 (possible 2 more);
CSU 4 (possible 5th);
Det 4;
GB 4 (probable 5th);
MILW 4;
Oak 3 (likely 4th);
UIC 3;
YSU 4.

And it's not just HL teams either...here are some of this year's opponents.
Murray St 2 (possible 2 more);
Illinois 4 (possible 5th);
Ohio 2 (possible 2 more);
Evansville 3;
UCF 3;
Mercer 3 (possible 4th)
St. Louis 4 (probable 5th)

That's just impressive.  Let's put it in team perspective:
last year: 4.
2012:  3.
2011 was the last time 6 did it:
Rowdy 182
Howard Little 172
Cory Johnson 148
B-Wood 142
Kenney 124
Mike Rogers 107

2010: 4.  2009: (ERROR 404 FILE NOT FOUND, OR 3)

2002: 5.  2001: 6!
Raitis 259
Lubos 182
Jason Jenkins 127
Toatley 123 (!)
Gomes 119
Stovall 110

2000: 6!
Raitis 184
Lubos 175

J-Jenk 101
Toatley 100 (seriously, has there ever been a less-heralded guard to do that 2 years running?)

Toatley was one of my favorite players to watch in my first few years.  I never would have guessed that Jason Jenkins had 100+ rebounds in 2 different seasons, as he literally set up a house along the 3-pt line :)

Do you have any figures for how close Moussa is to breaking the record for travels in a season?  I swear he has at least one every game.

I would guess that he averages over 1 traveling call per game.  Vashil has shown improvement around the basket in taking it to the hoop quicker when he is given a pass in low, but Moussa absolutely needs to be very close to the basket to have a chance at scoring (outside of his random jump shot the other game).  He has shown the ability to seal off his defender directly under the hoop, though.

Takeaways...LVD part of the 500-point club.  I know that history doesn't work this way, but his two-year stats over four years would leave him #13 on the all time scoring list.  I think that's a fair comparison of how good he is, because it's not taking into account the games he missed last year, nor the rest of his games this year.  (Anyone who doesn't like him, what's your freakin' problem?  do you CARE to imagine how/where we'd be without him?  I'll tell you:  somewhere between UIC and YSU, that's where.)

Furthermore, I would be willing to bet that of people who have played at least 1000 or 1500 minutes for VU, he's top-10 in points-per-minute played.

FUN FACT TIME #1 in minutes played, both total and average, is LVD.  #2 is Peters.  But who is #3?
