...Did you know that in the D1 era VU has only had 1 player score more than 20 ppt, and that only in one season?  Don't cheat by looking it up, but just think about it for a second...

It's pretty amazing to see what Vashil has done this season. Top 3 in the nation in blocked shots, one of the best defenders in the country, he has been sure handed this season, his offensive have increased as well.

I recall early in the season Ickow asked Coach Gore (I think it was Gore) who was most likely to be in the NBA, his response was Vashil. Will he be NBA ready next season? No. But the steps he has taken in his brief basketball career is pretty amazing. He still hasn't plateaued out, he is still improving and getting better day-by-day. In his 3 playing season he went from a little used guy sitting on the bench to a top-tier defender in the country. He does have NBA potential, he still needs to add more to his game but interior defense is always a plus to have.

Is he gonna be playing for the Bulls next season? No. After 3 to 4 seasons of playing basketball in Europe or elsewhere? Maybe.

After my earlier post, I had to look it up.  How soon we forget.  After Smith and before Homer's teams were competitive.

Daryl Ashby was by far the star of the Adams Eagles who lost to Valpo High in the Saturday night championship game. I also remember attending the semi-state games at Purdue but I don't remember who Valpo High played against. When I heard Ashby was going to Valpo U it was really exciting for a kid like me.

If I remember correctly, Daryl graduated in 1978, the year before Valpo went Div 1.  He is pictured along with his team in a large photo mounted in Hilltop.

That makes sense. Ashby played for Ken Rochlitz. Life was rough for Valpo and Rochlitz. Dick Koenig was adamant that Valpo move into Div. I (University Division). It did eventually bring Homer Drew and son Bryce here.

As an aside, Alec has 121 3s in his first 60 games.  At 2 a game, he's no threat to Bryce's record of 364.  Which is a lot of 3s.

He already has more rebounds than last year (167-164).  Roughly on pace to be #6 all-time.

And, oh yeah, points.  On pace to be #2.
