I find it interesting that when we played Butler in the HL and the Bulldogs went to two national championship games some discussed the fact that Butler started their practices every season with emphasizing defense and not working at all on offense during those beginning of the season practices.

When Valpo turns a corner on success this season they are definitely also emphasizing defense. I'm sure that offense is given it's proper due amount of time but if a team doesn't start with defense I really don't believe there can be success.

Oh yeah, my Sophomore year, 2007 they hosted Marquette and Butler in back to back games. I believe they were both top 25, but I know Butler was.

Of course, the most famous game is the Miracle on Mound Street in 1988 when we beat #19 Notre Dame. I remember it fondly as I was sitting right behind Digger Phelps the entire game, and I got to see and hear him throughout, including his comments to the team in a late huddle that they absolutely were not going to lose this game.
