Seventies, Eighties, Nineties and introducing the Nullies

I heard this on a clip from a British radio station that made up this term because they wanted to play songs from 2000 to 2009.  The Nullies.

What do you guys think of this term for the years 2000 to 2009?

i prefer "aughts" ... "nullies" sounds like something kids would say so that they can't get punched for farting, or flinching, etc.

But it isn't today any longer. That sounds like a song title.

For places like radio stations they must make a separation somewhere and that is usually between 2009 and 2010. I assume "today" will be called "the teens." 2000 to 2009-"the aughts." I guess I never liked it.

as far as "and today!!!" it's pretty ridiculous when "today" is TWELVE YEARS LONG.

Yeah, I think I knew that.  The context of the discussion stemmed from introduction by '04 of the phrase "80's, 90's and today."  "Today" began 13 years and 2 months ago.

Well, I would argue that if 2000 belonged to the previous millennium, then it certainly also belonged to the previous decade, making the 80s actually 81-90 and the 90s 91-00.  But that's just me.  I'm all about making sense of insignificant things.

My mindset as well, but "80's" sounds slightly different than identifying a decade, so I didn't bother to snark about it.

Here is my take:  2000 was the last year of the last (previous) millennium.  2000 was the last year of the 20th century.  2000 was the last year of the 200th decade.  Both centuries and decades can also be thought of as 100 and 10 year periods.  This is why we have the 1800's, 1900's, 1980's, 1990's, etc.  The problem is using 1800's and 19th century to mean the same thing, which they are not.  We rarely use 200th, 201st decade monikers, so 80's, 90's, etc is AOK with me. 

I always telling someone that used the term "millennium bug" they were wrong on both counts.  It wasn't the millennium, nor was it a bug.  "Y2K Problem" was most correct.
