Hey guys! Thought I'd start a thread like the "Opponents Scoreboard" for Horizon League baseball, including standings and results, now that we have games going.

I will do my best to update this regularly. Instead of going to the individual school's athletic sites, I like going to d1baseball.com to get my results and game updates. It's a good resource for seeing how all the college baseball teams at the D-I level are doing on a daily basis. It also has links to Live Stats for every game, for those who want to keep up, but for work purposes and whatnot, can't stream audio or video of games during work time.

Wait till March, they will be announcing the addition of a school or schools to the Horizon League and one of them or more will have a baseball team. Book it!

You get a 3 year grace period to get back up to 6 members and retain the autobid. Therefore, we have 2 years after this one to add teams. This rule allows conferences that lose teams to be able to replace them without automatically losing their bid. It prevents such things as what happened to us in basketball when everyone left the Mid-Con, leaving us without a bid for 1 year.

I do like the variance in schedules in the 5 schools. Would like to see some more wins over the ranked opponents, but at least we're not getting horribly blown out by any of them, depending on your interpretation of what blow out means in college baseball in February and March.

I updated the remainder of yesterday's schedule in the post I made yesterday. There are a few games today that I will update as soon as I can. Rick Mahoney is updating today's game against Georgetown, and I definitely appreciate this, when the facilities in Florida aren't internet capable.

Sorry I took a bit of time to update this. For the non D-1 games, I put the school name in all lower case letters.

Our defense has had its errors, but couple that with our pitching, and we are looking good. We haven't given up 10 runs in any game. We were close against Toledo, but I'm real excited about how we're playing, especially hearing how things are going in the updates that jetz and a few guests provide while down in Florida.

I agree. YSU's schedule isn't horrid, but they are just seeming to play inconsistent/bad baseball, even in the games where they looked to be turning the corner, then they lay the golden egg.

Valporun, found a typo. Valpo is 8-11, not 7-12 record-wise. The Yale game was a Win, not a Loss, 9-2.

Sorry that I didn't update at all last week. With the NCAA tournament and other things going on, plus weather cancellations for games, I didn't think to check. Of course, the thread would go on forever with a daily update too.
In terms of how things look, what the heck has happened to Valpo? Is it a chip on their shoulder or some sense of entitlement? I know, in many cases, it is hard to defend a title, but with the same players all over the infield and outfield, why aren't we playing better or getting consistently solid play from the veterans? Our pitchers are getting drilled by the lack of run support as well. I'm sure that has to play on them mentally, "Why am I throwing so well, but yet my teammates are throwing these games away?" Are we lacking real leadership from the players on the field, or do they just think the HL title is going to fall to our laps again?

I think you might have hit the nail on the head here. Right now there seems to be no clear cut leadership--and in my opinion, it needs to come from an everyday player to have any credibility with the rest of the team. Missing Hagel right now...

Needless to say, this is a HUGE series this weekend at home against UIC. With UWM at 7-2 and us at 1-5 in conference play (4.5 games back with 18 conference games to play) our margin for error to defend our regular season title is dwindling quickly. Win the series at a minimum to gain momentum and re-establish some swagger. No easy wins in the HL this year with lots of balance (i.e. Butler is gone and YSU is playing consistently better this year thus far).
