Here's an article about Will that will shed some light on why he was taken by a SEC school.  I'm thinking the Evanville kid the coaches were watching was Zeller.  Also good to see he was an Honor Society member--not a big surprise when you think that a D1 athlete could graduate from anywhere is 2 plus years!!

Good find...sounds like a driven kid who wants to succeed.

After watching the film and reading the article, I have really high hopes for this kid.  Honestly, I won't be shocked if starts at the point sooner or later this season.  Buggs can't shoot and that really kills us.  It may also spell the end of Kurth?

I don't think some of you realize how much Homer Drew likes Buggs for his speed and defense.  He is the starter at the point, and will remain so until someone really takes it away from him.  We need more offense from him, but don't look for any of these guys to take his job anytime soon....

Oh I'm fully aware of Homer's love affair with Buggs' defense..I remember multiple times this year where Homer left him in games in the first half with two fouls and he picked up a silly third.  He sure wasn't leaving him in there for his offense.

I just think that if an SEC-caliber recruit comes in who can shoot and run the offense and plays above average defense, it's only a matter of time before he gets the lion's share of the minutes.

On a lighter note, isn't it ironic that VU has a player transfer to MSU and one transfer from MSU?

actually Ole Miss is University of Mississippi.
UM not MSU

Duh!  My bad.

i agree. this could be it for kurth.

I think I'll agree with the above two posters...the writings on the wall for Kurth.

I think we'll have to wait and see what Tommy brings to the table.  By the time next season rolls around, it will be 2 years since we've seen Tommy play.  Two years to mature physically, to develop his all around game, his shot, his confidence, etc.

that is true...hopefully he will show the progress. i liked him as a freshman, and if he has developed further since then i like what he brings. but will he be able to be a perimeter threat?

I think with the five returning and Kurth and Bogan, Homer will have the luxury of being able to adapt to speed of game, foul trouble, defense, energy need, etc., during each game.  They could all average 20-23 minutes a game, but some nights it might be 32, another night 12.  With Wood and Little gone, there are 60 minutes per game for Bogan and Kurth, and some improving minutes for the others.  I think Homer will be OK.

What was I thinking - I don't recall.

I'll make another attempt.  Last season we had six players fighting for time - Wood, Broekhoff, Little, Buggs, Harris and Kenney.  For much of the time we ran 3 guards and a SF with Johnson, Rogers or Van Wijk.  One could also argue that Rogers could play the swing position as well.  These six players averaged about 151 minutes per game total.  Broekhoff, Buggs, Harris and Kenney return, along with Kurth (medical red-shirt).  We have Boggs, Bogan and Jakolis coming in next fall.  Since Jakolis is a freshman and 6'7", I'm considering him to either play swing or red-shirt (since he considers himself a guard).  That has 7-8 players fighting for 150-160 minutes - which I think is doable.  Bryce may find that guard play is our forte, and play a little more up-tempo.

I guess that I was trying to say that there should be enough time and basketballs to go around next year, especially if we play a team game.  Yes, I did leave Boggs off the original message, but was thinking of him playing the bulk of the schedule.

Looking back at some old threads, I thought this one was very interesting.  Has Bogan exceeded expectations so far?  It looks like several posters hit the nail on the head re: Kurth.  Always fun to check out past analysis.

I would say bogan has met my expectations for the most part. I did think he would create more of his own shots off the dribble, but that hasn't been the case so far. He has been shooting the ball quite well lately though!

Bryce said he was a "dead eye shooter" and over the last 4 games he has hit 11 of 21 from the 3.  Obviously he has gotten comfortable and could be the answer to having a scorer other than Ryan and Kevin.  Let's hope Jay continues to improve and the defenses we face will have a tough time stopping us.  The real question is: Can we find a way to stop anybody??
