Big make or break series this weekend in deciding HL regualar season baseball champions.  Milwaukee pretty much clinches if they take the series.  Valpo right back in it if they can get the sweep and  still in shouting distance if they can take the series.  Valpo has won six in a row and I believe Milwaukee has won eight in a row.  Should be a great series!

Let's go Valpo Baseball!!!!!
Valpo Baseball:  2012 Horizon League Regular Season Champion!  2012 and 2013 Back-To-Back Horizon League Tournament Champions! 2012 and 2013 Back-To-Back NCAA Tournament Regional Appearances!

24 combined hits, 24 singles.  Milwaukee hit the ball hard off of DeBoo, then Worm came in and shut 'em down.  That's his best outing of the year...he used off speed and spotted his fastball to perfection.  Great job by Kyle.  Big win for Valpo in game one of this series.

Great job guys, now we need two more!!  It would be huge to sweep Milwaukee, to end up 0.5 games back for the regular season title, and is definitely possible for us to do.  We would have 6 games left to Milwaukee's 3, with both teams having 3 against YSU

Holy cow!   :o  I checked in on the BB game and UWM was killing us 6-1.  I said, better get back to painting my basement.  So now I check back later in the evening wondering how badly we did, and 7 runs in the 7th and 8th inning CRUSHES UWM and the final is 10-7 Valpo.  Way to go guys.  No give-up in this crew.

We get the sweep against Milwaukee with a 7-6 win.  Another late inning comeback down 6-3.  Won 9 in a row!  Wow!  Great job Valpo Baseball!  Let's close the deal and win the HL Regular season and HL Tournament.  Only one game back with six to go!

To think, we had Milwaukee fans coming on here declaring that the regular season championship was already decided two weeks ago  :).  It still may be hard to overcome the fact that both teams play YSU 3 teams, yet Valpo has an additional 3 left at UIC.  I do think that YSU will beat Milwaukee at least once, as they beat them once in their previous series as well.  I think we can sweep YSU, and if we go 2-1 against UIC, sneak into the title!  In this scenario, we would be 15-9 (0.625) to Milwaukee's 13-8 (0.619) to secure the one seed and outright regular season championship.

Awesome job to even get in this position!!!

Even if they don't catch UWM before the end of this season, this is definitely a team destined to make noise in Youngstown during the HL tournament. With Wormington getting things figured out his last few outings, they have 5 pitchers that are serious threats to pitch 5-7 innings per outing...a huge advantage in tournament play. VU's pitching depth (both starters and in the pen) makes them dangerous any time they get run support. The offense is heating up at the perfect time to provide that support.

Nail on the head here, Dave...

Don't want to piss in your corn flakes, but they were the 9th, 10th and 11th games in a 14 games in 15 days stretch that ends tomorrow.  Our weekend pitchers had taken on work early in the week and it was abundantly clear that Long, Tassi and Schneider as well as the bullpen were gassed.

Nm looks like today's game against Parkside is cancelled, so it's 13 games in 15 days.

Oh come on, that is just making up excuses.  We won because we were the better team all 3 games.  I can still pitch everyday at age 31 if I practiced as much as we did in college.  Your arm is trained to go every few days as a starting pitcher, and every day or every other day as a reliever...do MLB players use this excuse ever??  They have similar routines to college players, and in some cases, are the same age...

As a long-time guest reader, and someone close to the program, I would never want to cause any strife in the blog because I enjoy reading most of what you guys have to say other than some incorrect information/opinions regarding players/coaches. However, valpotx, you need to stop dropping subtle references that you played baseball with lines such as:
"I can still pitch everyday at age 31 if I practiced as much as we did in college."
Let go of the dream. The blog is for posting about the current team, not depicting old memories from when the team was 2-41. I am sorry to everyone else in the blog. I am truly not trying to be negative in here at all. Just too much to handle. Nevertheless, valpotx was correct in calling blackpanther out for making excuses.

Gosh, how about alittle credit, blackpantheru. I do acknowledge your team must be tired at this point -- but is it that much of a difference that Valpo played 13 games in 20 days which also included a trip halfway across the country versus a top-10 ranked team. Every team is tired at this point. And how many non-DI teams did you play during your 15-day period? I certainly hope your weekend starters did not pitch mid week against those teams. Coaches are different in their philosophy on pitching their weekend starters during the mid-week games - valpo does not, and IMO that benefits them to be more well rested as we head towards the home stretch.

All 3 games this past weekend were well played by both teams. And I think we all know that Milwaukee is a very good team that will be tough to beat in the tourney. We are just excited to finally see our team playing like we know they can and getting hot when it matters.

No need for me to defend valpotx, he can do a fine job of it himself. Nonetheless if you are going to come on here to post you don't need to be taking shots at people. If you are so "close to the program" maybe you should take a moment to look at the records to see just what you are talking about.  If my math is correct I think he played in the very late 90's. In 1998 the team went 31-23 and in 1999 they were 30-27.  Not exactly 2-41

There is no dream here buddy.  I am fully aware that I play in an adult baseball league now with other has-beens from all levels, and any possible baseball career after college ended when I had Tommy John before even starting at VU.  That dream died when the top programs stopped recruiting me because of surgery, and I ended up at Valpo.  That doesn't mean that I can't compare my past situation with the current ones to relate to a bull crap excuse for being swept by us at home.

You need to really check into reality if you think a Fans Forum is only about current teams, as well as your comment about us being 2-41 when I was playing.  We had a record of 28-29 my first season, and around 20+ wins in each season after.  This was while playing in a conference with top 25 ORU.  You are doing a disservice to any former VU players in making such a comment.  How can you call yourself 'close to the program,' if you are devaluing what the previous players have done?  Are we just supposed to forget where we came from?  I would put any of our players up against the current ones, regardless of record.  No, we didn't win conference, but we had some solid players that you are putting down with your comments.  Not me as much since as I have mentioned many times on here, I played mainly JV due to my injury.  However, I will stand by my teammates forever when you call them out as such.

2001: 28-29
2002: 15-32-1
2003: 22-33-1
2004: 20-34

I would love to know who you are if you want to personal message me, if you think that I have provided any false information.  Any personal attacks like that should be done that way anyways.

Well, I'll give you this--your post sure livened up the blog! Every team could list any number of excuses, but we won't and didn't after you swept us in Chicago.  We swept a series that featured the current HL leader and the team in second place.  If you can't give your best effort with whatever players you have to play, your team has more serious problems than fatigue.  I think the Panthers did come with their best.  Our team was just better last weekend.  Your starters, as a group, are better than our starters right now.  Our bullpen is better and we have a better closer.  It will be an interesting last couple of weeks, but right now we're working on our 10th in a row.  If I were any team in the HL, I wouldn't want to see Valpo in the other dugout.  We're simply hot right now, and that's baseball.  See ya in Niles...

Sorry all, just saw the turn this thread took.  If I had seen it sooner I would have taken care of it.
