Volleyball 2013

The biggest key is simple - can Morganne Longoria step right in at libero from day one?  Asking her to come in and replace 100% of Taylor Root's production/quality at libero right away is way too much to ask, but if she can start from day one and be above-average at the position, the squad will be in great shape this season.

I think our consistency at the libero position has been a huge part of this program's success over the last decade-plus.  Sara Silcox was solid for her final three seasons at libero, once the position became part of the game in 2002.  Brittany Malicoat then came in, earned the starting role halfway through her freshman year, and was stellar for the next 3 1/2 years.  Then, of course, Taylor was amazing at the position all four years.

As per Vapo's volleyball website, they have brought in transfer Nicole Lambert from Radford. That brings the total of new faces to 8. A total of 17 on the roster would make me think someone's gotta redshirt. Just wondering who?

How often has Coach Avery redshirted anyone for reasons that weren't injury-related? I'm not sure that volleyball does a lot of redshirting for the sake of development for a magical 4th and 5th year for that player.

Here's another interesting thing. NCAA allows for 15 free rides and they can't be divided up. So two have to pay? Can't see that happening. The math doesn't add up.

Massey has the Lady Volleyballers 2nd in the Horizon to start the season.  Come late September when the Horizon League schedule starts, it will be interesting to see where this team is ranked.

TG for volleyball because the rest of our fall sports teams are suspect. Hell, football will be at or near the bottom the Pioneer League and our soccer programs will be at best middle of the pack. So bring on bowling

It seems that we have quite a bit of depth, and beat a UCF team that is usually decent.  I have high hopes of returning to the NCAA tournament!

Interesting to note that the Volleyball team has neon green jerseys as well (Men's Soccer has worn them already).  I wonder if that is now an alternate jersey for all teams, to give us a uniform option that is more 'new age?'

Unfortunately I believe there will only be one team coming from the Horizon (again) to the dance unless a team has only a couple of losses for the season. Strength of schedule really hurts the chances.

If it wasn't a NIKE influence on uniform marketing for jersey colors, and "making the sale", then who at Valpo decided that some of our Olympic sports teams should have alternative jerseys including the neon green accent from the university letterhead scheme?

Great to see the team go 2-0 yesterday and a good crowd for the second match. BIG 10 foe Iowa today. Gonna have to go to another level to win.
