Jason Calliste says of leaving Detroit Mercy: 'I needed to go'

http://www.freep.com/article/20130816/SPORTS08/308160148/detroit-basketball-jason-calliste

"I needed to go, I was done it with,'' Calliste said today. "I gave four years and I gave all that I could give. It's time to move on. I've been there for so long. I've seen the good, the bad and the ugly. I know there's always going to be bad situations, but I just felt like it could have been a better situation, especially with the coaches that had to leave.''

Detroit is going to be bad this season

They missed their opportunity last year.  They didn't have very many fans when they were good, next year is going to be even worse.  I promise Oakland will have more fans at Calihan Hall than UMD.
CRUSADERS!!!

Wow...he would probably have been the featured scorer, right?  Unless Brundidge was stepping right into McCallum's sneakers and he saw the writing on the wall?

Says he didn't talk to anyone yet...but can you believe it?  Who makes a move like that without their next one lined up?

You know what probably happened...he planned this all along, but learning from Sandi Marcius, he kept his trap shut until summer school was done so he could graduate early and on scholarship.  Otherwise he would have said this at the end of the spring semester when there were more open spots on rosters.

Detroit isn't done yet though:

He certainly seems to blame the president, former AD Gaither, and McCallum Sr for the asst coaches, Thomas and Briggs, being forced out.

I don't know...syntactically, the "had to leave" construction might rather suggest that he KNEW they needed to go, he just disagreed about the way it was handled...

According to Verbal Commits, this kid had several offers - Big Ten, Big 12, PAC 12.  He must have really wanted to stay near home.  Good for him!

Definitely not the same guy. The guy you're looking for doesn't have a profile on Scouts or ESPN.

He'll fit right in at Detroit.
