Pay Scale has ranked most of the USA's college and Universties on the basis of average starting salaries for recent college grads and then mid-career earing levels. Valpo ranks #395. Average starting salary for VU grads is $49,500. Mid-career earnings are $76,200. Really bad. Check out the info. on Pay Scale. Makes you wonder...why Valpo? >:(

395 out of __???__

If it's 396, that's really bad; if it's 1,396 it's in the upper third.  What's the relationship?

A link would be helpful too.

I have absolutely no complaints about where I am at financially at 32 years old.  Valpo was very good for me and my career  :)

Bet the mid career measure was taken after they retired from the military and ventured into the private sector.

Is this article accounting for cost of living?  Seems obvious, but...

I suppose some fraction of Valpo grads head into Chicago, or other big cities.  But plenty stay in Valpo or Valpo-like areas with lower cost of living, etc.

Anyhow, a pretty narrow measure of our success.

Are Valpo grade more likely to go into non-profits and other worthy but not financially lucrative areas?

An interesting data point, sure.  But I don't initially know what to make of it.

The NYT weighs in:

Their critique seemed to have a lot to do with technical jobs (engineering, etc.) vs. liberal arts type careers.  I'm not sure that helps explain too much in Valpo's case.
