Leading up to Carter's debut, I found a few minutes to run our guys PPS. Haven't done this in a while, but this is my attempt to show how productive, or not, a player is during their time on the court. A score over 0.8 is typically all conference worthy while a score over 0.9 is pro caliber. Click the about PPS link for a bit more. I'm hoping that with my 8th grade season winding down I will have more time to update these, like after each game.

You can look back at some of last years numbers, but a quick glance shows we don't have those one or 2 elite guys who are dominating every night like we had last year. However, we don't have anyone down in the 0.2s and 0.3s playing big minutes.

Hot shooting led to a big scores for a handful of guys. Good to get a practice game in so everyone can get acquainted with their new teammate.

In all seriousness, what all goes into your theory again?  Wondering what factors go into the neg number (why Carter's was so astronomically high)?

We only look at stats from the box scores. The goal is to see which players are truly making positive impacts on the court, and too see at what point (minutes-wise) a player maximizes their production.

What I don't get is what goes into the negative score (which, I'm assuming, -1 would be the worst possible neg score, which, coupled with a 0 pos score would leave -1.0 the worst possible PPS score).

What are the factors, and how are they weighted?  Obviously -.85 or whatever it was is bad.

There's no limit to how high or low a score could be, just depends on how efficient or not the player is and how many minutes they play.  If I told everybody what the formula was I wouldn't have anything to do, and nerdy math me needs to run numbers from time to time.

Could you do a by position PPS for the year? So like this:

1: Lexus, Carter
2: Dority, Yeo
3: Peters,  Coleman
4: Bobby, Adekoya
5: Moussa, Vashil

I don't know if that's possible or if it's way too time consuming, but it'd be interesting to see breakdowns of what we've done positionally.

Even though Peters PPS was disappointing I was glad to see his effort and results are starting to trend in a positive direction. I believe he should retain his playing time of from 25-35 minutes. He can start anytime as far as I'm concerned because starting doesn't mean a whole lot as I've expressed before. Peters is not scoring a lot because he is still shy of shooting the three ball (he only attempted 1 three) but I have a true feeling that will return. What Peters was able to do in the Milw game that didn't happen in the Detroit game was he took the ball to the rim, he picked up 6 rebounds and he seemed to play tougher defense. He still needs to work on less turnovers as does the whole team.

Right you are. There are other ways to earn a high PPS besides scoring points. Grabbing rebounds, picking up a steal or block, and finding teammates for assists can really boost a score. That's how Rowdy always had high scores. Even when he wasn't scoring 20 points, he was grabbing boards and blocking a few shots (being efficient with the shots he did take didn't hurt either).

Dority with a cool 1.0968 tonight
Sykes with a very above average, although way off his season pace, 0.6291
Sykes was helped greatly by the amount of free throws he hit. Dority's score needs to explanation.

Dority led the way obviously.  Keith Carter, Jubril Adekoya and Bobby Capobianco also had nice PPS results.
