Well, I don't like Oakland....I can put that aside, go CSU for tonight.

I'm really rooting for Oakland to go 8-8 this year, winning all their home games and losing all their road games. I'm not sure why but I think that would be the pinnacle of hilarity to me, especially since Kampe claims his tough OOC road schedule prepares the team for the HL schedule.

Oakland and CSU trading leads with thirty seconds to play.  It sure would be nice if Oakland could play world-beaters at home.  Assuming they roll over at the ARC, of course.

CSU turnover - Felder to the line.  Should probably do it.

59-46.  Final.

Was Lebron James at the _Oakland_ game?  Huh?  Didn't follow the commentators comment at the buzzer...

Don't look now, but Oakland has now beaten the three best teams in the league---at home.  Nice win for them.

Thinking back to the two game event we played in Mt Pleasant, MI at CMU in late November, if we had played the Chippewas early in the season and beat them on their own floor we would have gotten a huge boost to the season. I still don't understand why that tournament wasn't a three day event, like the one in Nashville, so that Valpo and CMU could have played also.

I saw 1/2 of the Maine vs CMU game and was thinking that if Valpo had played the Chippewas if really would have been an evenly matched game.

Wright State, we kind of took it to them in their own building. Also Oakland hasn't won a road game yet.

It's starting to look like beating WSU isn't a big deal.  WSU is not the team it was last year or the team we thought they would be this year.

I don't want to get ahead of ourselves.  We have some good out of conference wins and should be proud of out we have accomplished.  However, we haven't done anything yet.  We have won the games we were favored in (except Oakland) and we lost the games we were dogs in.  I really like this team and think they are special.  But we need not to get ahead of ourselves.  We win the games we are suppose to, like we have, and then beat a green bay and then CSU away and I'll get ahead of myself (as well as we would must likely win the HL if that happens).

Going 19-4 to start a season is nothing to laugh at. We have beaten some good teams and came damn near close to knocking GB off at home. Valpo and GB are by far above the rest of the league, CSU, Oakland, and Detroit are all dark-horses at a possible upset.

We absolutely trounce the lower tier HL teams, past-year teams have let some weaker teams linger around in games and make them closer than they should be. This team is very good, it is no fluke that we are 19-4. We easily could be 21-2 since our two league losses easily could've been W's, one went to OT and the other we lost by a point, and both were road games in very tough venues to play in.

My guess on the final 4 will be:

Valpo vs Oakland (thriller)

GB vs CSU (GB pulls away late)

Title will be:

Valpo over GB (laugher)

That's what the announcer said... I guess it is implied that Lebron roots for anything and all things Cleveland.

Oakland is for real, at least at home.  I just hope that CSU gets mad and beats GB this weekend!

LeBron is lifelong best friends with an Oakland assistant coach Brandon Weems. He was LeBron's point guard in high school and James calls him his little brother in his book. The Cavs play the at the Pistons tonight so he was in town and came to the Oakland game. Last year he came in worked out in the Orena which caused quite a stir on campus. Nothing to do with Cleveland State

SanityLost17

Last night, Oakland shoots 28 free throws while Cleveland State only shoots 7.  CSU actually made 6 more baskets than Oakland!  CSU attempted only 14 three pointers, so it does not appear that they were chucking the ball from the outside all night.  I still contend that this was the main reason for the free throw disparity in our game against them.  I think we shot something like 23 three pointers in that game?

Also.  Cleveland state was without 2 starters for this game.  At full strength, or a slightly lower free throw disparity, and I think CSU would have won this game.

I believe that Oakland lose 4 more games this year: @Valpo, @GreenBay @Wright State and at home to Detroit.  12-6 is probably a 4th place finish? They are a much better team than people predicted.  Felder is the real deal and only a sophomore and Kampe is an underrated coach on this board.  Add in a highly rated big man for next year, a few talented youngsters like Hayes, and a couple of solid transfers and I would be shocked if it is not Oakland and Valpo at the top of the standings for the next couple years.

Grizz

In six league games this year Oakland has shot 134 free throws and our opponents have shot 72. So either we don't guard anyone so we are not close enough to foul, or the refs love us, or maybe we just get the ball to the rim more then our opponents. Also in those 6 league games our opponents are shooting .266 from the 3. The most interesting stat in those 6 games is we have made 131 field goals while our opponents have made 155, yet we are 4-2. Felder has shot 62 free throws and our opponents have shot 72. Guess Valpo is not the only one to foul him.

I wouldn't dismiss Wright State so quickly. When they lost to Milwaukee the Raiders were without Yoho and Karena, the Kiwi, (Karena played 2 minutes before getting hurt) for this game. Against Valpo Yoho was out. Last night with both Yoho and Karena the Raiders beat Detroit in Callahan Hall, 64-53. That was their second win over Detroit. Next Monday, Groundhog Day, WSU takes on Green Bay at the Nutter Center. That could be a game that the Phoenix are unprepared for because they will have played CSU in Cleveland on the 31st, this coming Saturday.

I think Valpo will knock off WSU at the ARC but it won't be an easy game for the Crusaders. The Raiders could very well be the team that knocks off UWGB in Dayton and sends Valpo into first place.

The 3-point shooting could not be the reason for the disparity in free throws during the Oakland game. Valpo and Oakland attempted nearly the same number of 3-point shots. In fact, in the second half the 3-point stats were identical: 4-9. Yet, the free throws attempted during that period were 19-4 in favor of Oakland. Even if you remove Felder's 8 attempts during that time frame, the disparity would be 11-4. (This does not count the free throws in overtime, some of which were due to intentional or technical fouls.) Had the fouls been called more fairly in the second half, Valpo would have won and there would not have been an overtime.

Or maybe, just maybe Valpo should not have fouled so much. Naaaaaaaa

22 Valparaiso 18 4 81.8      make that 19-4... 82.61% and we run over CMU into 21st place

BTW, the Chippewas are back in action tonight @ Kent State... so if they win, they would sneak past us back into 21st place....

Today, Valpo is alone at #21 in W/L%  (82.6)

We could move up tonight...

IF   KState beast West Virginia in Manhattan
IF  George Washington beats VCU at the home of the Havoc
IF  Utah State beats Wyoming in Logan UT tonight.

Colorado State is the only other team with a better% that is playing tonight, but they are 18-2 and will still be ahead of us, even if they lose at Boise State

CMU Lost
WVa won
VCU won
Utah State did beat Wyoming
Boise State did beat Colorado State...

we moved up one spot...Thanks aggies!
