It's not that Chicago and NW Indiana don't have restaurants such as this. It's just that in an old, small, college town the chances of dining in that restaurant are a lot greater. I truly believe that the reason the McDonough County Board of Health hasn't shut this restaurant down for good is that it hurts the local economy so much. There probably won't be a well run restaurant to take it's place.

The truth is Indy is a fairly bland town due to it's depending so heavily on sports. All-American is the true flavor of Indy while ethnicity in restaurants is not a big deal. Sometimes it seems Mexican-American and Chinese-American are the most popular American restaurants. Try to find a good Greek-Gyros or a "real" Italian eatery in south Indy. The most ethnic it gets in south Indy is Indian (from India) restaurants. That is because there was an influx of Indians that moved into south Indy. With that they brought the sikh religion, although the majority are actually christians running from muslim and hindu domination, and that turns a lot of heads in south Indy. It has sparked some community controversy too.

Was expecting a different response! But agreed - Indy seems to be lacking when it comes to decent places to eat. There's a damn brew pub every 3 blocks, but it's impossible to find a decent Italian or Mexican place. But it's not all bad. As far as downtown goes: Barcelona Tapas is the only tapas place I've ever liked. Bankok Restaurant is a good Indian place that isn't a lunch buffet (which are also good). Adobe Grill is a good upscale Mexican place. And my favorite, Dicks, which is a cheep BBQ place.

Other than that, I don't have much experience outside all of the bars.

This is why I love DFW, as we have tons of ethnic places to choose from.  DFW is a melting pot within the melting pot of the US.  In Irving alone, we probably have 1 Indian restaurant per square mile, due to all of the IT talent in area from India :).

Des Moines has some excellent Italian restaurants on the south end of town. I would certainly take Des Moines dining over Indy or Louisville. We also have an awesome hamburger joint...

The Western Illinois Quad Cities Riverfront campus is gorgeous. I would expect it to begin passing the main campus for applicants soon. Which may not be a good thing.

For a campus that opened up 3 years ago I have my doubts that it will pass the 13,600 students that WIU-Macomb has at this time or any time soon.
