Mileek went for 17pts and 8rebs tonight in a win over Southport.

Speaking of Southport, the Cardinals, after losing to Jeffersonville and Merrillville by double digits at opposite ends of the state will take on the Trojans from Center Grove, finally in near by Johnson County. CG postponed their two opening basketball games due to their football team advancing in the state playoffs. So Southport with two large losses under their belt will battle untested Center Grove, coached by none other than Butler grad, Zach Hahn. Brad Stevens sure has a great legacy.

Can anyone share a good website to follow box scores from Indiana high school basketball?  Was curious to see what his FG% was leading to 17 pts?  Maybe I'm hunting a ghost, thought I'd ask.

You might have noticed an ad on the ESPN 3 broadcast of the Rhody game of a company called Statzhub.com. Their ad said they covered stats for levels down to high school. It might be worth a try.

Was Sasha in the house last night?

I don't think so

Was surprised to see that Merrillville is not loading stats to the MaXpreps website.  This is probably the most common website for high school sports and teams to upload stats and other information including videos.  Maybe they will start doing so as the season gets into full swing.  http://www.maxpreps.com

This is from last week but Parker Hazen throws down a pretty great dunk last week.

Thanks, hope to follow Hazen and Mileek a bit.

Heard Mileek put up a goose egg against EC the other night.

Unfortunately Columbia City is 0-3 under their first year (at CCHS) coach Brett Everly, Everly only has 4 wins in his whole career as a coach, as the Eagles lost to Whitko (3A), Warsaw (4A) and FW Northrop (4A) by a total of 41 points.

M

Saw Walter Ellis was offered by Cal. He'd be a nice get for Coach Lottich.

M

Mileek had 14 pets, 7 rebounds and 3 blocked shots tonight in a win over Morton.

Mid season Parker Hazen highlights. Amazing explosiveness, athleticism and post moves, vertical.

Very glad Parker is coming to VU.  But does he shoot at all...rather than layup or dunk?  I suppose highlight reels of shooters aren't as sexy...but we need shooting most for next year.  If he is our PF/SF of the future we want a combination.  Anyone watch his games that can comment?

How did this guy only get other offers from Ball State and Iupui?

He reminds me of Seth Tuttle - looks like an intense dude with a great low post game.

Parker really committed pretty early, right in the middle of summer AAU.  If he had waited a little longer I am sure you would have seen the offers roll in.  He was intimately familiar with Valpo because of his brother's recruitment and I think that really helped us as he had stated in some local articles.

Quote"It was just kind of a slower recruiting process than what I kind of hoped for," he said. "Nothing against Valpo, but I use that as a chip on my shoulder – where I can go out there and play mad. ... I'm definitely all-in on getting this season, contributing the best of my ability."

He wants to continue contributing at the next level, too, by making an impact as a freshman at Valpo. He averaged 15.8 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists in his junior season.

"They had faith in me," Hazen said, "and also just looking ahead to next year when I step on campus. There's going to be some gaps to fill, and they kind of have faith in me that I'll be able to fill those gaps. That's what I'm looking to do, which is to contribute right away, obviously competitive at the next level and work hard to get to that spot."

The Crusaders, under former coach Bryce Drew, also pursued Hazen's older brother, Brachen, who is a freshman at Arkansas. Valpo was a final-four selection for Brachen before he first committed to Central Florida, then later to the Razorbacks.

"Brachen and I, we had kind of separate recruiting, which was good," Parker said. "I learned a lot from the fact schools can take awhile to recruit you and eventually get that offer, but at the same time, we wanted to keep ours separate. It was a good thing.

"Valpo, they recruited Brachen hard. That was one of his last four schools. At the time, he committed to Central Florida. Valpo was out of the picture there, he decommitted and then coach Drew was gone. I think Valpo handled that well keeping us separate instead of seeing it like a package deal."

Currently Brachen is the 13th man on a pretty good Arkansas team plus they have signed top highly rated PF's for next year...

Very quick first step and able to finish through the contact (of the much smaller defenders).  It will be fun to watch him develop.  Hope for an outside shot, but I'm not holding my breath.  Maybe that comes later on like it has for Jubril.  I will be interested to see how his post game is his freshmen year when he can't just bully his way around.

From what I've heard about Parker is that he is athletic, high energy 4. With the possibility of becoming a stretch 4, he develops his jump shot. His brother Branchen is more of a 3 and better shooter, but Parker's is quicker and more athletic. But what I took away from that video is that Parker has some really great feet for a big guy. He moves around the basket really well for a guy who is 6-8. He is also a good passer. He needs to work on that shooting touch and he could be extremely dangerous scoring threat. High ceiling for Parker and is going to be a core player for us.

I was just looking at Branchen Hazen's stats at Arkansas this season and isn't getting much playing time yet down there (he's a true freshman). http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/gamelog/_/id/4066246/brachen-hazen
This is a pipe dream and way to hopeful thinking to think Branchen could possibly transfer here lol. Two Hazen's on the court and the same team play for Valpo would be pretty awesome. He's a good player and could get playing time with us and could develop his game here. Branchen Retweeted this tweet a few days ago...

Could you imagine a potential Northern Indiana Basketball Coup of:
-Parker Hazen (Columbia City)
-Mileek McMillan (Merrillville)
-Sasha Stefanovic (Crown Point)
-Branchen Hazen (Columbia City)
-Walter Ellis (South Bend)

Would be one hell of a crew.

SanityLost17

I think we should temper our expectations of this recruiting class a bit.  Columbia City hasn't exactly been a force and they had both Hazen brothers on the team for a few years.  I think it is going to take Parker longer to develop than most posters think.  The Merrillville kid seems more like a project and maybe a potential redshirt.

The transfers are intriguing, but none of them were standouts at their former schools.

Agreed, but I don't think anyone thinks they are going to be studs from the get go though. I think Parker will need to adjust to the colligate game, because he won't be able to push guys around like he can in high school with his size. I can't emphasize enough how important the need to develop his jump shot to keep the defender on him honest, to make his life easier to for him to get to the basket. The Valpo coaching staff is really going to help his game to become more well rounded.

Like you said Mileek is a project and is a very late bloomer. Apparently he's still growing and is adjusting to his new height and body.

I'm still really hoping Sasha Stefanovic signs with us. He's an immediate freshman impact player, with his jump shot. I've personally seen him play and he's a game changing recruit for a program. I could see him getting big minutes his freshman year here.

From the video, Hazen looks D1 ready... or at least his body does. You can't teach that athleticism and size.
