Here's the video link for the Duquesne - George Mason game moved to this afternoon...

Dukes are up big early...

I wondered about that myself when I saw the story.

According to: http://espn.go.com/ncb/playbyplay?gameId=400839337&period=2

It was 64-54 with 1:23 left after a WF basket.  Not statistically safe
It was 64-56 with 1:19 left after a Virginia basket.  Not statistically safe
64-58 with 1:10 to go after another Virginia basket.  Not statistically safe
Same score WF missed a FT with 1:05 to go.  Not statistically safe
64-61 with 0:57 to go after a Va 3.  Not statistically safe
66-61 with 0:53 to go after 2 WF FTs.  Not statistically safe
66-63 after Va basket with 0:47 to go.  Not statistically safe
68-63 after 2 WF FTs with 0:45 to go.  Not statistically safe
69-63 after 1 WF FT with 0:39 to go.  Not statistically safe
70-63 after 1 WF FT with 0:28 to go.  Not statistically safe
Same score with 0:24 to go after Va turnover.  Not statistically safe (but close)
Same score with 0:21 to go after WF turnover.  Not statistically safe (not close)
70-66 after Va 3 with 0:17 to go.  Not statistically safe
Same score with 0:11 to go after WF missed FT.  Not statistically safe
70-69 after Va 3 with 0:05 to go.  Not statistically safe (regardless of time remaining!)
71-69 after 1 WF FT with 0:03 to go.  Not statistically safe (regardless of time remaining!)

So, no, it was never a statistically safe lead.

I'd forgotten how strict the definition is.  It's not so far from"with no defense, could you score the points?".

[right --> strict; darn auto-correct]

Still a highly improbable ending, and crazy buzzer beater. Involved lots of missed free throws, some good shots, and only 1 WF turnover!

Oh definitely.  The last 5 seconds were crazy just from looking at the text pbp.

Butler lost to Marquette 75-69 and now sits at 14-7. They have 9 Big East games remaining and another 3 or 4 losses looks very probable prior to their conference tournament. Their OOC SOS sits at 206 and they only played one true road OOC game. Looks to me like they could soon fall out of at large consideration and I have no desire to meet them in the NIT. Maybe next year.

There looks to be some retribution for their deal with the devil and I've never been happier.

Not sure how many of these games they can win!  They have 3 BE wins, two against DePaul and they're done with them, and one with #201 St.Johns.

Here's their remaining schedule:

   74   Georgetown   13 - 9   Game 1 tomorrow night
@   201   St Johns      6 - 15           Won by 20 at Hinkle
@   46   Seton Hall   15 - 6      Game 1 next Wednesday
   4   Xavier   19 - 2      Lost 88-69 in Cincinnati
   103   Creighton   14 - 8      Lost 72-64 in Omaha !
@   2   Villanova   18 - 3      Lost 60-55 in Hinkle
@   74   Georgetown   13 - 9   Game 2
   46   Seton Hall   15 - 6      Game 2
   111   Marquette   15 - 7           Lost 75-69 in Milwaukee

Since there's no opponent games tonight, here's a couple games to at least keep your eye on:

7PM EST
Notre Dame @ 17 Miami ESPN2
If you're really bored. Both teams hovering around Top-25 mark.

7PM EST
Davidson @ George Washington
George Washington's bubble could pop with a loss here.

9PM EST
Southern Illinois @ 21 Wichita State on ESPN3
Wichita State is probably the best mid major in the country right now. They're fun to watch. They lost 4 of their first 5 games after dealing with injuries to VanVleet and familiar foe Anton Grady, but have since gone 14 of 15, including a 10-0 conference start. They've won all by 1 conference game by 10+ points (@ Evansville), and have destroyed the MVC thus far. Southern Illinois has been surprisingly good this year - they have the same amount of losses as Wichita State, but a much weaker schedule. They started the season 18-3, including a win vs Oakland. They've since dropped 2 straight, but they may have some talent to keep the game somewhat close. Wichita State won the first matchup at Southern Illinois 58-83 and are favored by 17.

10PM EST
UC-Irvine @ Cal Poly
UCI favored by only 3.5. They have a 7'6" center, and are in the 12-14 range. Probably a tournament team, but could bump Valpo's seed down if they both make it that far.

Agh I forgot !!!

Wichita State won another game easily. They'll play Illinois State Saturday night and hope to keep blowing out their opponents.

Miami won and Notre Dame probably won't be receiving too many top 25 votes.

George Washington won and may start creeping back into the at large bubble.

UC-Irvine won in overtime on the road... No ESPN3 coverage there!

The Wichita St loss drops them 11 RPI places to our old position of #32. Our road win drops us 15 positions to 47.

I have watched enough Shocker basketball to know they are a handful, but they are not 3, 4, or 5 seeds better. While on the subject let me also post my observations that we would beat Monmouth 3 out of 4, St Mary's 6 out of 10, and would hold the slightest of edges over Gonzaga. If you do not agree then jump in here and start arguing.

We should know better than to ever kick a dog when it is down. It is amazing how quickly the worm can turn. After solid wins at Georgetown and St Johns Butler pulled out a 6 point win tonight  at #52 Seton Hall. The next bracket updates will have far fewer doubters and they could reemerge in the same territory we are occupying. I probably jinxed their decline by being the first to have written them off as dead. Oh well! I would love to meet them in some future tournament or even this one.

The Summit's top team, South Dakota State just lost to University of Nebraska-Omaha. Now tied with IPFW in conference. South Dakota State has 6 losses, including ones to UMKC (283 RPI), Weber State (157 RPI). Also had conference losses to ND State and IUPUI. Their best two wins were Mid Tennessee State (their only expected top 100 ooc win) and UCSB (expected 121 RPI). Yet prior to tonight, they had a better RPI than Valpo. Damnit Horizon!

talksalot

Butler has those three marquee wins... and raised their RPI to 60... still trailing Indiana... at 52

oh... Valpo sitting at 42.

IPFW and Middle Tennessee State have the identical numerical RPI 0.5592   good for 79/80.

We were ahead of ND too for a little while....
