I always like the passion and intensity that Tiby plays with...last year was probably UWMs best chance at a conference tournament win though.

Player of the Year
Alec Peters, Valparaiso
133.5 vs 119.8 That's your KenPom oRtg of Alec Peters vs Kay Felder. Yes Felder uses 9% more possessions, yes Peters has more weapons around him, but Peters and Felder shoot about the same percentage of shots. Fact is Felder doesn't do on both ends of the court that Peters does. You would expect a PG to get a lot more steals than a 6-9 big, the difference between Felder and Peters is negligible. The rebounding and assists have stark differences, but they just about balance each other out when you consider Peters was 7th in Offensive Rebounding %. Unfortunately the voters won't look at the efficiency and will look at just the raw numbers and Felder has that advantage.

Defensive Player of the Year
Vashil Fernandez, Valparaiso
This wasn't as easy as it seems. Fouse's overall defense, Tai Odiase's blocks, and Paris Bass's rebounding were all in contention. In the end Vashil led the best defense in the conference and was top 10 in rebounding and #1 in block %.

Freshman Player of the Year
Dikembe Dixson, UIC
This was the easiest award to hand out. He was the lead player on his team, he used 33.5% of the team's possession. He played the largest percentage of minutes of any player in the league. While he wasn't the most efficient player, he certainly filled up the statline.

Coach of the Year
Linc Darner
With all due respect to Bryce Drew and Billy Donlon, Darner did something that surprised me and many around the league. He took a team who was defensively focused and made them into a fast paced, high flying team. He also only had 48.7% continuity from last season's minutes and had to replace some big minutes from Sykes, Mays, and McKinnie. For a first year coach, he did a really good job and is going to have a 20 win season.
