The article is incorrect on one issue.  It states :

"Eastern Michigan should drop Division I football, and join the Horizon League, where football is not required," the report says. "Alternatively, EMU can still play football, but at the Division II or Division III (non-scholarship) level within the Horizon League, which would save even more resources. The advantage of joining the Horizon League is EMU athletes could still compete at the Division I level in Olympic and other non-revenue sports, but spend much less."

If a school is D-I and wants to still compete in football, it must compete in D-I football at either the FBS or FCS level.  They could go Pioneer League, which is non-scholarship FCS, however.

Not to threadjack, but somewhat related to the topic--Idaho will be dropping down from FBS to FCS in 2018.

Reading the article I came across a term that was new to me:  "Body-bag Games."  Actually, that's quite descriptive of games scheduled against overwhelmingly superior opponents.  Idaho is/was scheduled to play Florida, Penn State, LSU and Indiana in coming years. We now have a colorful way to refer to our upcoming games against Illinois State, Montana.  I don't consider our games with Dartmouth in  2021 and 2022 or any Ivy or NEC team to be in that category, however.

You could call those "Teach 'em a lesson" games.

He needs to learn that he must pay his debt so we must "teach 'em a lesson." Not killed but a broken face teaches a good lesson.
