Thought I would create a new thread for Selection Sunday.  Even without Valpo, it is still one of the most exciting days of the year for me!

i'm sad that i'll be missing the selection show. the problems of being on the west coast, i guess. but definitely an exciting afternoon. especially considering that we're entertaing the prospect of more games (including possibly at home). gonna be a fun several hours. i have my fingers crossed for the nit, but given the number of conference champs that didn't win their tourneys, it doesn't look promising anymore.

My guess for #1 seeds:

Ohio State (#1 overall)
Kansas
Pittsburgh
Duke

valpo04

#3

#1 SEEDS
OHIO STATE (#1 OVERALL)
KANSAS
PITTSBURGH
DUKE

Oakland gets a 13 seed and meets #4 Texas in the first round.

What seed does Butler get?  I would guess a 9 or 10 since Oakland got a 13?

valpo04

Butler as an 8 getting ODU in the first round...

The committee must be on drugs.  Butler an 8??     With a 42 rpi?  Meanwhile Utah State, with a 10 rpi gets a 12 seed??
How about Belmont, with 30 wins and a 27 rpi, gets a 13?  They got hosed.  A few other shockers.

I think Butler goes down in round 1.  ODU had a 14 rpi and gets a 9??  What is up??

God, Oakland.  PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE take down the longhorns.

PLEASE.

With prejudice, if possible.

By the way, the East region gets 1 of the 16-seed play-in winners and one of the At-Large winners, the Southeast gets the other 16-seed play-in winner, and the Southwest gets the other At-Large winner.  The West 2nd round (formerly known as 1st round) is completely set.

I guess I was expecting symmetry, but I suppose there could be a good reason why it shook out that way.

The best guess I had seen for Butler was a 9 seed.  David Woods (I think) was hoping for an 11 seed.

Some of the things that stick out to me:

I can't believe Kentucky thumped Florida by 16 in the SEC Championship and gets a 4, while the Gators get a 2.

VT's signature win was beating Duke at home... Clemson's was beating VT at home... Clemson is in and VT is out.

Georgia solidly in as a 10, Alabama out even though Bama beat them twice.

Penn State goes from bubble/out to a 10?

...and the #1 overall has the toughest bracket.

It's interesting that Oakland will play in Tulsa. A place where they play Oral Roberts every year. And where the Mid-Con/Summit Tourney was held for 4 straight years. This time Oakland will play in Tulsa's downtown arena, the Bank of Oklahoma Center, seats 18,000, where the Tulsa 66ers of the NBA Developmental League play. Hopefully the Golden Grizzlies feel comfortable there and can surprise Texas.

Also since Clemson plays in the play-in game Brad Brownell will be coming back to Dayton.

Wow...that is an intense bracket.  I like it, though. Nice to have conference affiliation, RPI, and record in last 12.  Nice.

Brownell wins his return game to Dayton. Clemson downs UAB 70-52.
