The 7 VU grads that live here on a barrier island, are happy to see that Irene will miss us. However our friends to the North may have some problems. Good night Irene.

Anxiously watching and tracking Irene up here.  Could we have an earthquake and hurricane in the same week??

Ah, it is jj.  Welcome back, after all.

And, best of luck to those facing wet and violent weather.

i'm watching it as well. though i hadn't thought about the lack of time between a hurricane and the earthquake. i've just found it rather dull in the tropics for the last few years. it's only been three years since the last time conus was hit (by an "i" storm as well, go figure.)

Track has shifted back west as it now appears that the trough won't pick up the storm and kick it out to sea.

My last visit to dictionary.com gave me a free tidbit regarding how ironic a name this is for a hurricane, since Irene means peace.

With the amount of flooding in the northeast that is anticipated with Hurricane Irene these lyrics to Goodnight Irene seem morbid:

Goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene
I'll see you in my dreams

Sometimes I live in the country
Sometimes I live in the town

Sometimes I have a great notion
To jump In the river and drown
