T Walker Declares for the Draft but does NOT sign with an Agent(EDIT: Returning)

Tevonn is declaring for the draft and will go through the beginning stages of the NBA draft workouts and talking with NBA coaches and scouts. I am not worried about losing him to the draft (yet, hopefully he gets a shot next season (definitely will play pro in the near future)). He has till May 24th to drop out of the process.

This could only help him getting feedback from coaches/scouts/Front Office guys. Hopefully he gets good advice and some great tips from those coaches. Shouldn't hurt at all and probably could only help him.

Its all fun and games until he decides to transfer halfway through the process. This rule benefits the players immensely, but is a total joke to the schools that recruit these kids out of hs. We're in the age of "personal brand building," even if that means hopping around from school to school, leaving early to the NBA even without a shot in hell of getting selected, all in the name of HOPEFULLY getting a pro opportunity someday, as opposed to staying at one school (maybe even transferring once if its for the right reasons) and playing well in a good situation. I may just be bitter about the Kerem situation, but seeing this happen around the league (now with Jaleel Hogan, too) is really starting to steer me towards losing interest in mid-major basketball if I know I can't even root for a kid to have a good year for the fear of him jumping ship to another school or the pros immediately.

All valid points yayphoenix.  You just have to hope that the kids you recruit have integrity and a sese of loyalty. Alec set the standard for VU.  Hope that Tevonn follows in those footsteps. I think he will.

Does anyone know if he's graduated? Or can this summer? I would think it unlikely for him to transfer if he has to sit a year then play a year.

Unfortunately the days of rooting for a kid for four years seem in jeopardy.   This is a big reason why many people don't watch professional sports because they can't really get tied to the success of the team with such high player turn over. If the college game isn't careful, it's going to alienate fans in a similar way .

Graduating college in 3 years is actually quite easy, especially when you have the support system these schools give athletes. Every scholarship basketball player I've ever known has been working on his masters by the fall of his 4th year of eligibility.

These guys are taking classes year round so they can take the minimum in season. Take 12 credits in 3 fall semesters, 3 spring semesters, and 4 summer semesters and you have the 120 required for a bachelors by the start of your senior fall.

EDIT: to clarify, I'm talking about people I know personally, not college athletes in general.

Not "every" player does this, but you are 100% correct if you are saying every player SHOULD do this.

How do you guys think the pre-draft process helped or hurt Alec Peters' game and will the impact be similar of Tevonn?  Personally, I thought AP's post play improved dramatically his senior season and I would imagine this process might help Tevonn develop a better shooting stroke.  Obviously, it only benefits Valpo if he comes back but I hope this helps him further develop his craft.

Tevonn has a future in Europe or Asian leagues.  And what an experience that will be, why not invest now in your future by having the worlds elite league critique and recommend.

No, he doesn't have the length to transition into the NBA and he'd need to develop a better FG% on volume.

Still smart move as long as he gets invites to try out/train.  I'm thinking there are plenty of players who declare and get 1 or no invites.

I don't think anyone knows at this point.  He might be a graduate transfer candidate at the end of the summer, but there has been no announcement.

No one has mentioned that he is on pace to graduate, so I doubt that is the case.  It usually comes out well before now, since we know that Smits is on pace to graduate after 3 years of school.  I am not worried about the graduate transfer with him. 

I am actually on the opposite side on his capability of getting to the NBA.  I DO think that he has a chance, if he has a solid Senior year.  The guy has a ton of athleticism, and has shown that ability to hit that long 2 on a very consistent basis.  I rarely saw him miss just inside the 3 point line this season.  He will need to work on being smarter with the ball, however.  He is in a better position than Ron Howard was coming out of college, and Ron sniffed several NBA camps.  Tevonn has the ability to make an NBA team, if he continues to develop this year.  A lot of NBA scouts saw him play this year due to their scouting of AP, so they know of him already.  He will get good feedback from this process and come back stronger/more focused.

Ron HOWARD is 6'5" and long.  The NBA wants size, length and speed.  I've walked past Tevonn, he is my height around 6'1".

Alec ended his Jr year with the best play of the season and his career.  Leading to a record setting senior campaign.

Tevonn ended being one of the best players on the court @ Illinois.  Hope the trend continues with a dominant senior campaign for TW.
