Do we have any current players that are 3 star?  Sounds like quite a get!

I'm just happy neither of them were named Taylor. Of course then they would be softball players.

VU2014

They looked really good tonight. Dani Franklin was dominant and their freshman Bryce Blood looks like a player. 13pts and 13 reb in her debut.

You have to love that name, Bryce Blood!

Valpo women pull out a 5 point win. It was a much needed win. I didn't watch this game but it was good seeing the Crusaders didn't buckle when the pressure was on at the end of the game. Good win, ladies!

It appears the GCU women's coach, Nicole Powell, went to Stanford at the same time that Matt Lottich played basketball at Stanford. 2000-2004.

Good to see that our shooting numbers are better this year...so far.  Congrats on the win!

We lose @ Liberty 12/2 by 21 points.  Looking at the box score I see Dani had only 4 points in 30 minutes on the floor on 1-5 shooting.  Four points??? She had only 5 shots?  If Liberty was focusing on her, why wasn't there an adjustment made to free her up more? She is kind of the analogy to AP on the women's side -- she is a scorer. Just askin.... Jack.  Any thoughts?

Poor preperation. Liberty knew as Dani goes, so does Valpo. This game magnified our coaching woes. I could go on, but I will leave it at that.

Our women's team has a game vs Purdue today. Hopefully they play a little better then the men's team did against Purdue last night.

Purdue 85
Valpo 42

It is going to be bad...

Somethings got to change.  Valpo just lost to Purdue 95-49 after trailing at the half, 48-36.  That means we were out scored 47-13 in the second half.  Purdue isn't even receiving votes in the top 25.  That, is pathetic.  If she survives the end of the season I'll be surprised.  If she is around for next year I'll pass on support.  Bring back Keith!!!

Have our women ever played in front of 5,500?  In the first half, it would seem that they were immune to the environment and played pretty close with a pretty good P-5 women's team. Then, BAM.

Did Purdue pump sleeping gas into the Valpo locker room at half time? Could we have just refused to come out for the second half and just take the loss at 48-36?  What the heck happened?

Sure let's bring back the guy that drove us to the mediocre level we remain at today.

Mediocre?  We aren't close to mediocre.  She has won more than ten games (11) once and that was the team she inherited from Keith.  Keith had a winning record 13 of 18 years including a 26 win year and NCAA appearances and a deep run in the NIT.  Mediocre?  Really?

Yes 4 of his losing seasons were in his last 5 years. He finished with wins of 7, 9 and 10. Personally I would hope we could do better but whatever.

Keith deserves more credit than he gets on this board.  We were very competitive throughout his tenure, outside of those last 3-4 years.  Those 2 NCAA teams we had would destroy any of the teams we have put out on the floor in the last 6 seasons.  There is a large difference in athletic ability, IMO.  Our players used to be quick and could get inside.  Whenever I watch a game now, we seem so slow, and get stopped on every dribble drive.  I yearn for the days when someone like a Betsy Rietema or Jeannette Gray would come to Valpo.  They could get in the lane and open shots for other shooters at the 3 pt line, where someone like Suzie Hammel or Kathryn Knoester would knock them down on a regular basis.  Something needs to change, as we are capable of so much more...

Also, worth noting is that we were tied 35-35, so Purdue went on a 60-14 run to end the game.

Dani Franklin with 23 today as Valpo beat Chicago State 71-60

CSUW 15 13 18 14 60
VALP 13 24 12 22 71

A team that has 45+ losses in a row!  I feel for their program, as their coach had them moving in the right direction during our last years in the Mid-Con, before their university fell apart.

Freeman's last few years at Valpo were plagued with injuries. I recall several games when he only had 5 available players. I believe most of that season he had 7 available, and he still managed 10 or 11 wins. Then there was the monkey wrench thrown in when Ladd decided to up and leave.
It's been several years since this team had a legitimate point guard, and when they did, there was little help from the coaching staff. I've believed for some time that we have a D2 staff with a D1 program. I agree, something should change.

I checked the box score and a recurring theme seems to be holding:  We come out flat and don't adjust in the third quarter.

                     1ST   2ND   3RD   4TH   FINAL
Chicago State   15    13    18      14       60
Valparaiso         13    24    12      22       71

CSU was an inferior opponent and it happened the same way against Purdue, but in spades.
