Found this article from the Butler student newspaper which was written by parents of a daughter who was assaulted on campus.  Apparently it is a growing problem. Valpo is mentioned and although the number is lower it is still a big concern as well it should be.

Thanks for posting this. I suppose there's always another side to the story, but the idea that the president wouldn't even sit down with the parents of the victim is shocking.

It always bothers me, even if it doesn't surprise me, when I check the Valpo statistics and the number's not zero. I wonder, but don't have much involvement with and don't really know, how well we handle these issues.

At a glance, it looks like Butler has the worst crime and safety record in the state of Indiana.

According to our analysis of the government data, Butler University is a very dangerous place to be enrolled at. American School Search gives this school grade "F" on safety. From our perception of the data, there are some problems with forcible sex offenses.

That website gives Valpo a D, partially because it includes everything from a beauty college in merrillville to Purdue and IU on the same scale.

The sexual assault cases or at least the way they are handled seems to be an issue but my guess is some of the numbers on Butler's crime is also part of it's location in a city as well.

That site does seem to give bad safety grades to most schools. Trying a half dozen, the best four-year school I could find in Indiana was Wabash at a C-. Even Depauw gets an F.

OK - Goshen does get an A. But the big and medium-sized (and even some smaller, and small-town) schools that I tried didn't do well on their scale.
