Because they lose
DE Studyvin
DT Trumpower
LB Wheeler
LB Snouffer
DB Diaz-Martinez
DB Campell
OL Rentschler
OL Schofield
OL Taliaferro
TE Sutter
WR Norberg
WR Rene
WR Fox

That's a lot of production, also many multi year starters. It will be a youth year, they should improve from 2-9 however there will be A LOT of new faces

Fair enough, but, I just counted 33 of 44 back from the two deep from our last game not counting Seewald.  Several of those seniors didn't play much due to injury.  Does that make us a good team?  Nope.  But it does give us experience and that, in and of itself, can play out.  Let's sure as heck hope we do better than 2-9.
Season Results: CBI/CIT: 2008, 2011, 2014  NIT: 2003,2012, 2016(Championship Game) 2017   NCAA: 1962,1966,1967,1969,1973,1996,1997,1998 (Sweet Sixteen),1999, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2013 and 2015

While Snouffer is impossible to replace, getting Turner back is huge for both leadership and production. Petrie returns as well and Messler who had that break out game vs. Butler. Reed and Olojo seem like two big strong kids to anchor the DL. DBs will need to grow up quick, but Cam Kelly played a ton at corner.

Young WRs and QB health issues combined with depth at RB may bring about a change in offensive balance.  Seems like they have plenty of runs in the system and, on paper at least, the running game may need to become a greater emphasis.

I'm concerned about coaching staff depth... into Feb. now with several spots still not filled. Hoping that once we are past signing day that filling out the staff becomes the priority.

I'd like to think so but it should have happened last year with a veteran OL and didn't. Dave likes to throw it. It's not just the WRs who are a concern....unless they were hiding a player on the scout team who should have been playing....they also lose Sutter who was a pretty good receiving TE. They didn't throw nearly at all to any other TE using Kluck as a blocking TE.

I wonder if the hires have been made but just not announced as of yet. Maybe that's more of a hope than a wonder.

No Carlucci or Holmes

To me our biggest needs were WR and P and we apparently struck out on both as of now. We need those plus a TE and maybe a second QB given our injuries

Carlucci's twitter page still has Valpo '23 listed. Guessing that he hasn't been accepted as of yet and Valpo in the past has not announced players who've committed but hadn't been "finalized" to that point. So I'm hoping that's the issue and he's still on the way.

IndyValpo's comments about the lack of receiver recruits whether they are WR's or TE's is concerning long term. Punter and a second kicker are needed.

I wonder who we will lose, and if anyone follows Cech to Bucknell.

Hopefully he agreed to keep his hands off our recruits. I think Bucknell only signed 5 guys today.

Gotta believe Dave would not poach on Valpo's incoming class. And remember the Patriot League now offers FB scholarships, so the talent level goes up there and our kids probably would not make the scholarship cut (but maybe could get in as non-scholly players).

was valpotx talking about recruits or staff members? I took it as staff members but could be wrong.

This being a recruiting thread I assumed recruits.

True. I didn't look at which thread I was in.

I agree that it's unlikely any recruits follow him. Probably talking about a slightly different pool of athletes with maybe an exception or two. Bucknell had signed 11 on ESD as well as those who signed today.

BTW, the Twitter release and the Valpo Athletics release both mentioned this is the "First Batch" of commits.  In the past a number of other players whose paperwork was not complete or who still had not made decisions became part of a second, third etc. batch later in the spring.  Let's hope that, at a minimum, at least one good TE and a punter are among them.

One of the verbal commits who was not listed as signed is a TE so hopefully he works out. As to punter....how's your kicking leg and mightwe be able to squeeze another year of eligibility out of the NCAA for you?

I was always on the other end of the snap -- long snapper.   Was a busy puppy in the days of limited substitution college football:  RG, ILB, LS.  I was pretty versatile but was never able to snap the ball to myself.

I was speaking about current players, staff, and incoming recruits.

Don't know how to read these tealeaves but Carlucci's twitter page no longer has the "Valpo '23" in his profile but his timeline still has his Valpo commitment comments.

With offers from Butler, Dayton and the preferred walk-ons I unfortunately agree. If he has any interest in the legal field, Stetson could be a factor as well.
